May 10, 200421 yr The owner of the Chicago Wolves was so incensed by the officiating in Game 3 of their series with the Admirals that he offered anybody who saved their ticket stub a free pass to game 4. To me that's a class act by the owner.
May 10, 200421 yr Please Wirtz says he doesn't concern himself with the Wolves because The Hawks are the only Pro team in Chicago. I don't know if Wirtzy has noticed or not but he has an AHL team on the ice every night and I would bet the Wolves could even beat the Hawks in a game. It will be a great day when he either hands the team over to his son, sells the team or drops stone dead .
May 10, 200421 yr It won't be a great day when any of the Junior Wirtzes take over, because they KNOW how Daddy got rich and they're NOT gonna do anything differently. The kids are playing "good cop" right now in a pathetic attempt to inspire false hope in the dwindling fanbase that somehow MAYBE things will be different when Billy Bucks goes to that great distillery in the sky. It's a REAL shame that the minor-league team in town has major-league ownership and the major-league team has minor-league ( or worse ) ownership.
May 10, 200421 yr Owners who are fan friendly and marketing savy are all over the minor leagues. For the most part they are fans who are living a dream of owning a franchise. They are more involved in the marketing and closer to the fans. The local Hockey team here in McAllen (Mexican Border Town) sent players out into the community all "winter" to promote the game. Kids received little handouts and goodies in the school that also promoted the team. I know being a new franchise and playing in a new arena helped, but they were in the top 10 attendance for independant and minor league hockey. Not bad for an area that sees freezing temperatures every 15-20 years. Plus, hockey players, IMHO are the greatest for interacting with fans. Worst is a lousy owner. I think I enjoyed the Keanan era as much for the winning as I did for Keanan's propensity to tweek Dollar Bill and is lacky Pully. In tandem we have the wirtz owner and the worst GM in all of sports.
May 10, 200421 yr The Wirtzs is the only ownership group that makes Whitesox ownership look like it cares about anything other than profits! How did Chicago get stuck with Wirtzes, McCaskeys and Reinsdorf???
May 10, 200421 yr The Wirtzs is the only ownership group that makes Whitesox ownership look like it cares about anything other than profits! How did Chicago get stuck with Wirtzes, McCaskeys and Reinsdorf??? McCasky inherited the team from Papa Halas. JR bought a franchise that almost no one (DeBartola excluded) wanted and kept it in Chicago along with Gov. Thompson and a stalled clock in Springfield. I still wonder what DeBartola would have done if his application was accepted by MLB. I think he would have sunk some more money into the team. But who knows if that would have equated to a Championship. Worst? Maybe it's penance for some unknown sin. I do believe years and years of amost full houses with a s***ty product contributes to his cheap ass, vindictive, ways.

May 10, 200421 yr I am sure that they would have sunk more money into the team, the only problems is they would have been in Denver. Was Denver confirmed or speculation? I thought he hedged somewhat saying he would prefer to keep the team in Chicago, but etc. if however
May 10, 200421 yr Author Worst is a lousy owner. I think I enjoyed the Keanan era as much for the winning as I did for Keanan's propensity to tweek Dollar Bill and is lacky Pully. Keenan was the only man with enough balls to stand up to Dollar Bill & that's why he got fired. Never again will Dollar Bill allow someone who isint a total yes man to work in his organ-i-zation.
