Wunsch Recalled, Cotts to Start

WSC Report - 5/18/05

Felix Diaz sent to the minors in an effort to start Cotts

After just two major league starts, Felix Diaz was sent back down to the minor leagues to make room for left hander Kelly Wunsch, who the White Sox recalled from AAA Charlotte.

The move will also put left-hander Neal Cotts into the starting rotation. According to news sources, Cotts will start Saturday against Minnesota in Minneapolis.

In two starts for the White Sox, Felix Diaz was 0-1 with an 11.42 ERA. In both those starts, he didn't pitch past the 4th inning.

Kelly Wunsch is back on the White Sox major league roster after being placed on the DL before the season started. In 43 games last season, Wunsch posted a 2.75 ERA with 25 BB and 33 SO.

Neal Cotts will make his first start out of the rotation since last year in which he went 1-1 with an 8.10 ERA.

Go get 'em Neal!

I am actually glad to hear that. I think Cotts will be very good as a starter. I just hope Kelly Wunsch doesn't hold anything against KW for trying to trade him. In which I guess they couldn't find a taker or maybe want him to pitch to prove his is ok and then trade him for more.

Kelly KW will not hold a grudge against Kenny KW. Kelly KW has been around to know baseball is a business. Take that into account and Kelly KW's all around personality and he is going to try lights out to show Kenny KW that Kenny KW was a tad mistaken.

He'll be a good addition to the bullpen and club house.

Guillen will quickly find out how dependable Kelly can be.

I hope Neal can get the job done. We desperately need a dependable 5th starter. I think he's a lil more prepared than he was last year. Hopefully the experience he's gotten in the pen will help him.

Great News! Wunsch deserves to be up with the big league team and Cotts deserves to start.

I am going to be at that game! I am very excited to see Neal pitch--and I hope he does well. Should be interesting and exciting!

Wow, A Sox fan that lives in Minnesota?

I will be there as well.

Here's hoping that Neal is the starter we're looking for, and that Kelly shows what he can do!

Yes I'm a big fan of Cotts, and a HUGE fan of Wunsch. I hope they both kick ass in their new roles. I feel bad for Diaz, but, sorry dogga you had your chance and we need to win now. Hopefully Diaz gets another shot soon once he's got it together more and gets stuff done.

Cotts is by far the most deserving of this opportunity. He's done nearly a 180-degree turn from last year with regards to composure. He's now got the "I'm gonna get you out!" mentality instead of last year's "Can I get this guy out?" mentality. He's got the mentality, location, and decent velocity, and will allow his pitching to do the talking.

Go get em, Neal!!!

We already know what Kelly can do when he's healthy.

I will be there as well.

I'm going Sunday if anyone else is.

:cheers Go Neal.

I am certain this season will see at least one of our reasonably home grown pitchers have a great season. Here's to Neal making that prediction come true :bringit

Go get 'em Neal. Make Soxtalk proud. It makes sense, if we aren't going to get 6 or 7 innings out of Diaz, we aren't losing anything by having Cotts pitch his 60-70 pitches.

Hopefully Diaz gets another shot soon once he's got it together more and gets stuff done.

In all likelihood (sp?) he will. It's a long season and one of the starters is likely to get sidelined for at least a short stint. Hopefully he can pick up right where he left off before the call-up and get his confidence back.

That said, Rock and Roll, Neal and Kelly! :headbang

I wouldn't expect Cotts to go more than 4 innings, he's not stretched out.

This may be a stop gap move until a trade is made.

I like Cotts a lot and his long term future is as a starter, but they need to be real careful with his arm and # of pitches. I'd say about 60 pitches is all he gets.

Speaking of the future, I hope Cotts settles in REAL nice against the Twins and locks that spot down. If he does a good job I wonder what next years rotation will be like, I know Shoe is in his last year as is Loaiza (I think.) That would only leave 3 starters, Buehrle, Garland, and Cotts (TWO southpaws!!.) Both Shoe and Loaiza still are kinda shakey, maybe not now but who knows if Shoe will keep it up, and who knows if Loaiza will be able to show last year was not a fluke and can settle in again, those factors play a major role in who we get to start next season. All in all, I hope we do sign a lights out guy to make the rotation like its supposed to be.

Enough for the future, lets talk about now, I hope Cotts proves he can do it! I'll be rooting for him. :cheers :headbang
