In the long term I think it would pay off for the Cubs, but the immediate reaction would be that the Sox fans (let's face it the Cubs have no reason to leave) would be bitter towards baseball as a whole. The Cubs wouldn't gain fans for a generation. Where would the Sox go anyway? What market could support a MLB team? Charlotte? DC? Vegas? Portland?

Just thinking about a what if. We would be the largest solo market. Would we be Boston and an over $100 million payroll.

I guess the flip side if would the Sox have a higher payroll in Vegas?

If the Flubbs ever left town then crime would automatically go up 20% in the city of Chicago. Think about it. 40,000 drunken losers running around the streets of the North Side with nowhere to go and nothing to do. It's a recipie for trouble. Best to keep both teams.
