June 17, 200421 yr Sox' Guillen leading Cubs' Baker in Subway (sandwich) Series BY JANET RAUSA FULLER Staff Reporter Advertisement The White Sox are dominating the Cubs in the subway series. Make that, the Subway sandwich series. A monthlong promotion for the sandwich chain pits Sox manager Ozzie Guillen's favorite Subway sandwich against that of Cubs manager Dusty Baker, and it appears Guillen's aptly named ''Southsider'' sub is on a selling streak. ''His is outselling Dusty's like five to one,'' said Laurel Maddox of Fusion Idea Lab, the Chicago agency advertising the promotion and tracking sales. Baker shrugged off the early lead Tuesday, saying, ''I always start slow and come on strong.'' The sandwich contest began June 4, coinciding with the start of interleague play, and runs through July 4 at all Chicago area Subway stores. Baker and Guillen were asked to choose between several sandwiches but ended up creating their own. The men, both of whom frequent Subway, were ''very particular'' about their toppings and condiments, Maddox said. Baker's ''Northsider'' sandwich combines pepperoni, ham, red onions, lettuce, tomatoes, spicy brown mustard and a hint of mayonnaise. Guillen's sub is a heartier pile of roast beef, turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, onions, green peppers, tomatoes and a slathering of Ranch dressing. The subs sell for $2.99. The sandwich that sells the most through July 4 wins the series. A charity chosen by the winning manager will receive $5,000. Baker's charity is Hermon Baptist Church. Guillen's is White Sox Charities.

June 17, 200421 yr Yeah, they Southsider was great, except I think they did it wrong... they asked me which condiments I wanted...
June 17, 200421 yr I took a shot at both this weekend...they are both pretty good. Southsider is a bit better, all bias aside, but i thought they were worth the 2.99 for sure.
