June 17, 200421 yr Does anyone have any suggestions or know of decently priced reception halls on the southside of Chicago? We had one picked out (actually still have a hold on it), but after 2 weeks of communications, they just told us their minimum for a Saturday night wedding reception is 250 - we have 150-200 at this point. While we still have plenty of time, I don't want to wait too long to get the hall being that we have already set the date with the church and don't want to not be able to find a hall that is available.
June 17, 200421 yr Author You know, there's ways to get money... Start a soxtalk.com superfund! LOL! Money isn't really the issue, just location. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to drop a huge wad of cash on this, but I would like to find something local with a decent hall.
June 17, 200421 yr Have it at a golf course instead. Low people limits, and the plates are generally $4 to $7 cheaper. Food and atmosphere is better also. IMO. And better picture ops, too.

I contacted one place about that and waiting to hear back. It's just a pisser when you think you've got the place and there is something they have neglected to tell you...
June 17, 200421 yr I agree with Steff, check out a Golf Course... I had my reception at the Abbington in Glen Ellyn, beautiful place and great food!...but I had over 400 people in attendance. eek
June 17, 200421 yr Author I emailed about 6 places this morning (2 or 3 are golf clubs). Hope they respond in a reasonable amount of time...

Was it a plushie only wedding, or did normal people get to attend?

June 17, 200421 yr Queen Prawn: If your looking a cheap place to host your wedding party, VFW halls are a good bet. My brothers wedding reception was at one, and while that was 5 years ago, don't recall neither his wife (or my parents) voicing displeasure with the particular hall. Its likely not the extravagent country club many couples look for, but if cost is a concern VFW halls are second to none. My brothers was at VFW post off 63rd and Harlem (Across from Argo High School). I take it you know where it is.
