June 23, 200421 yr Does anyone have a picture of Shingo's expression striking out Coco Crisp in last nights game?
June 23, 200421 yr No but I would love to know what he says when he's pumped up like that. A lot of pitchers just scream yeah or hell yeah...what does shingo say in japenese?
June 23, 200421 yr I thought it was funny when Burke went to talk to him in the 10th. I wonder what he was saying, because I don't think Takatsu speaks English and I'm sure Burke doesn't know Japanese.
June 23, 200421 yr Author Shingo did put out a smile when Burke came so he had to understand something.
June 23, 200421 yr Hawk and DJ commented on Burke going out there DJ said something like: "I guess Jamie is 'talking' to Shingo about something"
June 23, 200421 yr I'ver heard that he is actually busting his butt learning English. So I am sure by now he knows the very basics of baseball talk. Things like "fastball" "away" and such, I am sure he knows those by now. He has been here for some time now.

You'd be surprised what you learn when living in the environment of the foreign language for a few months. They say that if you are trying to learn a language and living in a country where it's spoken it takes you 4-6 months if you had some background knowledge of the language. I'm sure they teach some English in Japan, it's used too globally not to.

June 23, 200421 yr Shingo understands everything a player needs to know on the field in english. It just has to be said slow
June 23, 200421 yr I believe Shingo's wife speaks english, so this is probably not his first encounter with it. Add to that he seems to be very professional, so he is probably trying his hardest to adapt as quickly as possible. SB
June 23, 200421 yr Shingo understands everything a player needs to know on the field in english. It just has to be said slow d-o y-o-u s-e-e t-h-a-t h-o-t c-h-i-c-k i-n t-h-e t-h-i-r-d r-o-w? S-h-e'-s m-i-n-e. Teams have an almost unspken language nowadays. With so many players from all over the world it is necessary. That is one of the challenges of pulling a team together. It is tough to make friends if you don't hablar espanol or speak english in many clubhouses.
June 23, 200421 yr lol that's true. btw, hablar is the infinitive form. It's habla. you are correct. Living where I life, I should have known that. It's nice to see the We Speak English signs in some windows como se dice "closer" ey espanol?
June 23, 200421 yr you are correct. Living where I life, I should have known that. It's nice to see the We Speak English signs in some windows Hell, I knew that. I've never taken a day of Spanish in my life!
June 23, 200421 yr Do you think Shingo can understand Ozzie? I speak English and Spanish and sometimes it can be tough for me to understand him!
June 23, 200421 yr I don't care what Burke said to Shingo as long as it got the job done. Shingo is a gift from the baseball gods.
June 23, 200421 yr I agree, the whole crowd last night was excited when he came in...almost like we felt like we'd win. 4-0 he is...thats awesome.
