July 1, 200421 yr If the bullpen can be solidified with the success Pollite, Marte, and Shingo have had as of late, the Sox can essentially turn games into 6 inning games knowing Pollite can come in the 7th, Marte can come in the 8th, and Shingo shut it down in the 9th, and it would take tons of pressure of the pitchers to try to pitch gems every night. The offense can and will get it done, that a given. But if the starters give 6 solid innings, this team can be dangerous.

July 1, 200421 yr Author I am really excited and I think this team can go deep into the playoffs. Another starer and reliever, and I think we're ready for a huge run! If the Jones/Ortiz deal goes down and maybe we get Meadows from Pitt or Cruz from ATL, I'd be pumped. I love the idea of a shutdown 7th, 8th, and 9th.
July 1, 200421 yr Just think if we got one or two more solid relievers. Be solid as hell. Once we get Schoenweis back, that can seriously become reality. When he comes back, assuming no other additions are made to this rotation, our rotation would be: Buehrle Garcia Loaiza Garland Schoenewis We can then send Diaz to the bullpen and Rauch can go back down to the minors to get some good work starting. To me, Diaz can give us more quality innings than Rauch can, and I'd rather have him up here in a pinch than Rauch. Of course, making a deal or two would be nice...Getting Ortiz WITHOUT giving up Maggs would be tops on my list.

Can Cliff keep this up? We all know he's got a good arm. I think this 7th inning role is good for him.

July 1, 200421 yr The key is, Pollite. We know what Marte and Shingo can do. Can Cliff keep this up? We all know he's got a good arm. I think this 7th inning role is good for him. I think the key here to keeping Politte in his current state is giving him the rest he needs (i.e. a day off every now and then), which is where an extra guy in the bullpen can really do some good. I think it would be great to take a gamble on Rauch down in the pen until Schoenweis returns...then send him back down to the minors. Politte's been good, but he can't be pitching every single game.

Shingo has been great, but he can't pitch everyday. Politte was awful, but has been great of late. Marte has been good for the most part, but has had his bad moments. Other than that? Even if Politte decides to turn it around for good and Marte stays consistent we can't pitch 3 guys all the time.

July 1, 200421 yr This is all good and dandy to beat the AL Central and get to the playoffs But we need one reliever at least for the playoffs to go for it all. I still say a Beltran or a Randy Johnson is what this team needs to put the fear of God in the freaking Yanks

July 1, 200421 yr Ozzie and Coop may have found a role that Politte can thrive in, or Politte may just be pitching well for now only to return to his inconsistant stuff of the past. We'll have to see how it plays out. I'd sure like to see another quality reliever just in case this doesn't pan out. Occasionally, the starters will get through the 7th inning, so it shouldn't even be close to an everyday thing for Politte.
