July 2, 200421 yr Not that any1 cares CHICAGO - The Blackhawks made their first jump into the free agent market, signing Colorado Avalanche winger Matthew Barnaby to a three year deal on Friday morning. (Blackhawkzone.com)The Blackhawks made their first plunge into the free agent market on Friday morning when Colorado Avalanche winger Matthew Barnaby signed a three year 1.8 million deal with the Blackhawks on Friday morning. The Blackhawks were expected to be very unactive in the free agent market until a new Collective Bargaining agreement was reached, so this signing has to be considered somewhat of a surprise, especially when the rumor mill had Barnbay returing to the Easterin Conference.
July 2, 200421 yr Author Barnaby is a FREAK!!!!!LOL I actaully like it though, he always seems to bring something to the table, and is a grinder. Insurance to be the main power forward, if Daze gets injured again this season. Has a good year though for the Rangers and Avalanche.
July 2, 200421 yr Author Theo Fluery anyone????? Stay away from strip joints in Columbus and he'll be fine.
July 2, 200421 yr I wonder if that 1.8 is per year or total for the deal. Seems to be the total amount, which means 600K per. That's why they signed him - he's cheap. Unfortunately, he's also kind of cheap on the ice too. I'm not a fan of his, so this move doesn't excite me at all.
July 2, 200421 yr Met Barnaby a while back, and like most of them, off the ice they're pretty cool. I really don't like Barnaby's antics either, but, actually, when he wants to play he's pretty decent.
July 2, 200421 yr The Avalanche are my favorite team, so I follow them a lot... and from what I hear they might keep Kariya
July 3, 200421 yr Now go get Kariya. Umm.... No? He couldn't do good on a team like Colorado, what makes you think he'll do good here? Go get Glen Murray.

He rejected a 3 year 1.6 million a season deal from Colorado.
