The final season in old Comiskey Park produced one of the best seasons since 1983. The Sox managed to stay in contention most of the Season finishing second (94-68), 9 games out. The Offensive attack was led by Leftfielder Ivan Calderon (.273) who had 14 homers and 74 RBI’s and added 32 steals. Rookie Outfielder Sammy Sosa (.233) hit 15 homers and 70 RBI’s and had 32 steals. Carlton Fisk (.285) who broke the record for homers by a catcher Slugged 18 homers and drove in 65. Designated hitter Ron Kittle hit 18 homers in a part time role and Centerfielder Lance Johnson (.285) had 36 steals. Rookie Frank Thomas was called up in June and hit .330. Lefthander Greg Hibbard (14-9) had a 3.16 ERA and tied for the team lead in wins with Jack McDowell (14-9). Melido Perez was 13-14 and Eric King won 12. In the Bullpen Bobby Thigpen set the Major league record for saves in a season with 57, Scott Radinsky added 4 saves and Righthander Barry Jones had 11 wins out of the bullpen. After the season Jeff Torborg was named AL manager of the Year.

We were building something pretty special during the early 90's. Too bad the 94 strike wiped it all away.

Ah - so the Frank Thomas era begins? Damn. Looking back at his numbers, he put up some astonishing numbers in the 90s.

ah memories, this is when I first became a Sox fan which is strange because I lived in eastern PA, pretty much Yankees teritory.
