So where is the Kong bashing thread now?

Featured Replies

So, right now against Sele, the bases are juiced in a 5-3 game where a base hit ties it

And Jose V has just walked?

So what does Kong do on the first PITCH...HE HITS IT FOUL

Second pitch....he hits it FOUL

So why is he NOT TAKING ANY PITCH .....given how important is at bat is for the game and given a bas ehit would tie it with two outs

Of course he even went after the 3rd pitch (on 0-2) count and got a basehit to tie it 5-5, but where are the bashers?

Like I said, if C Lee had got a bse hit with that hit that day where he hit the ball hard, there would be no threads

:fyou hypocrites

Yea.. if Lee's hit had gotten just a bit higher.. no one would have b****ed.

What exactly is your point..? :huh

My point is to bash C Lee and generalize that he sucks for hitting that first pitch in a key situation is WRONG and UNINFORMED

Maybe Guillen had given C lee the sign that he has to swing on the first pitch because that is the best pitch he is going to see

The difference is that Lee's hit didn't get the job done.. Paul's did.

Baseball is a game of inches. I don't think swinging at the first pitch, if it's a good one to hit is necessarily wrong. Sometimes hitters, Carlos Lee included, can be too aggressive and swing at things that aren't good pitches to hit. Carlos and Paulie are both good hitters though.

I agree it is not necessarily wrong....which is my point. Stop bashing someone because they hit at the first pitch....big deal.

I'm not going to bash Lee, but I will say the situation is different. In the game Tuesday, F-Rod was in trouble because he gave up some walks and was having control issues that way. Thus, patience seemed like a better strategy.

In today's game, Sele was giving up a hit parade, thus, swinging the bat at something that looked good seemed like a better strategy.

the difference is konerko goes up to home plate with some kind of a plan...and after going down in the count 0-2 he shortened his swing and just tried to dump the ball into RF...carlos with the bases loaded swings from his heels regaurdless of the count...does anyone here deny that lee is not a very smart ballplayer??..

im not the biggest paulie fan either but over the years konerko has atleast develop some sense of situational hitting..so i dont bash on him anymore...mainly he is doing a much better job of going to RF this year than he did last year...

when carlos was on his hitting streak where he didnt hit any homers he probably played the best stretch of baseball he ever played for us...i wish he would stick with that mentality..short swing - hit the ball where its pitched..including into RF...if carlos would do that id never bash him again.

Judge the at-bat by the quality of contact.

1st pitch line-out is better than a 10th pitch bouncer that has eyes, or is mishandled by an infielder and is scored as a hit.

Sometimes a hard-hit out is better better than a flukey hit.

Better be lucky than good may work in the stock market, but over 162 game baseball season, you want good and not luck.

Carlos Lee consistently swings at the first pitch. In any situation. He lets a lot of pitchers off the hook that way. For instance the other day against Zambrano when we had him in a high pitch count. Carlos Lee is the first batter up and swings at the first pitch. That is f***ed up! Take some pitches, get Zambrano out of the game earlier and get to the bullpen. Lee is just a dumb ball player. Good hitter, but very very dumb!

Carlos Lee consistently swings at the first pitch.

You have to judge by the OUTCOME.

1st pitch pop-up to RF/1B/2B is bad.

1st pitch line-out to RCF gap is good.

I have seen a lot of Paulie DPs and non-clutch hits to last a lifetime

The guy goes 4-5 w/ 2 rbis (one of the 4 being a double) and you are whining about him?! :banghead

I swear that if this was the message board of the 1927 Yankees, someone would be b****ing that Babe Ruth doesn't steal enough bases. :headshake

Not only that but we're whining about an AB, where he swung at the first pitch... He fouled off that pitch... got down 0-2, then gets a hit...

"Please Lord.. please let me make contact with the ball......"

Whatever works!

YEAH, I always hated that slow fatass!

...of course, I heard that Ruth had a bad hip...
