Gotta Love a Sox Fan Mayor

Daley: Fix Wrigley, or I'll shut it down

Mayor Daley accused the Cubs Wednesday of concealing the first of two incidents of falling debris at Wrigley Field over the last six weeks and said he would not hesitate to shut down sections -- or the entire stadium -- if that's what it takes to protect capacity crowds.

"If one section could be dangerous, you would want us to [exercise] caution on the side of the fan. Otherwise, there are going to be good lawsuits here. The trial lawyers will love it," the mayor said.

Daley said the Tribune Co. has a "legal and moral responsibility" to not only correct the problem as soon as possible, but fully disclose it to the fans who have packed 90-year-old Wrigley all season long.

That's apparently not what happened on June 9.

A loose chunk of concrete "the size of a small brick" fell from the upper deck on the first-base side and landed on the foot of an "elderly lady" attending the game along with four busloads of senior citizens from Iowa, according to a handwritten letter alerting Buildings Commissioner Stan Kaderbek.

4 busloads from Iowa?? I'm shocked!

There's mooooore then cooooorn, in Indiaaaaanaaa (and Iowa).

Well, not really.

The whole state of Iowa must have went to a Cubs game!

I'm glad to see him doing so. When facades start falling from other buildings, the same thing happened - they had to do immediate repairs and have inspections (my dad's building downtown had something like that happen and the one where a pane of glass fell and killed that lady a few years back is just a few blocks from him).

Meaning someone stupid build Wrigley

Shutting down sections of Wrigley Field??? But didn't they do that to the ENTIRE UPPER DECK back in the 1960s because they had trouble selling tickets???

Awww, what a shame!!! I would just hope that THAT team wouldn't be relegated to playing at Comiskey if they had to shut it down and tear it up in case of emergency. Instead, make them play at UIC or Northwestern's stadiums. :lolhitting Make the team (and their fans) super uncomfortable. It's not like they could even fill THOSE seats with fans who know the game.

I was let down by Daley last year when he wore a cubs hat to a playoff game.

Yeah, he lost his Soxfan card with me after that.

If he shuts down Wrigley, even for one game, he earns it all back :lolhitting :fthecubs

I completely agree

I was on a busload from Iowa on July 3rd. Woo Woo actually came on our bus.....ugh. Although, the Cubs fan next to me drank 7 Diet Slices over the course of the trip.

Wrigley is undergoing a full inspection starting tomorrow at 6am

What happens if the place doesn't meet certain criteria? Do they close the place down and have them play games in OUR ballpark? :puke

I think they should be relegated to an area minor league team's ballpark, since they ARE a minor league ballclub!

US: Have a wonderful safe and structurely safe place to play

Them: Need hard hats and full body armor to attend a game.

Wrigley is a s*** hole, and I hope it falls to the ground(no injuries i hope)

What will the drunk homeless do next year without their cubbies. I have an idea, get a f***in job.
