July 31, 200421 yr Baseball is far from over. 2 months of regular play and the Cardinals might believe the division is theirs already. Wrong thought if they are thinking that. Does anyone know if they are going to make a trade or not? The Cub lineup looks better, no doubt about that, and like I said, there is still 2 whole months to go. Wake up Cardinals GM
July 31, 200421 yr Cards have an 11 game lead, don't play the Cubs anymore, and simply will not lose. Cubs are thinking Wild Card, which they are the favorite for now.

The Cardinals have all but sealed up the NL Central. All they have to do is show up and the division is essentially there's...if they play .500 baseball, they should win(because by playing .500 baseball, they are forcing the Cubs to win about 42 of 62, which, even for the greatest of teams, is not easy)
July 31, 200421 yr Yeah, but it's only Wild Card - no way a WC team can be a favorite to win it all. Sosa, Garciaparra, Alou, Ramirez, Lee, Patterson, Walker, Barret, Hollansworth, Hawkins, Farsworth, Merker, Clement, Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Maddux....who?

Sosa, Garciaparra, Alou, Ramirez, Lee, Patterson, Walker, Barrett, Hollansworth, Hawkins, Farnsworth, Mercker, Clement, Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Maddux....who? Thing is, only one name on that list is new. The rest have been on an underachieving team all year. I may be in the minority, but I don't feel that Nomar makes them the prohibitive favorite to win the Wild Card. They've played some mediocre baseball thus far, far under what was expected, and if they don't change THAT, Garciaparra won't make a big enough difference at all.
August 1, 200421 yr The game is not played on paper. No matter who they add, they've got to bring it to the field. It's gonna be a dogfight that will probably go down to the last week for that wild card.

August 2, 200421 yr Jose Valentin is god. His errors don't cost the sox. The Cubs are going to win the World Series... Momo.

August 2, 200421 yr all those names lost a lot of games to the Cardinals this year. What's with the belief that the Cubs can just "switch it on" and beat the Cardinals at will? They sure didn't demonstrate that this season... If the Cubs fail to reach the postseason, that belief that "we're gonna come around sooner or later, we're too good not to" will be the reason. That was the Failure Mantra during the Jerry Manuel Regime - "it was still early", even in July and August, and "we're a much better team than we've shown" and all that blahblah. The Cubs ON PAPER have a deeper and more talented team than the Cardinals, but the Birds have gone out and played to their strengths and capabilites, while the Cubs have underachieved. And for all the good moves Hendry has made ( and there really is no denying the fact that he is one of the better GMs around, payroll or no payroll ), he didn't get them a consistent, reliable closer. That alone could come back to haunt them, unless Hendry has a waiver deal in mind.

It ain't Farnsworth. Who is it?
