DBAHO
Interesting read, Magglio: leaving or staying? Leaving. You want to know why? Because he didn't sign his contract (offer earlier in the year). We would like him to stay, but you take a lot of risk signing a guy who you don't know what he's got with the injury. It would depend on how much money he wants now if he would stay. What players have been the biggest disappointment? Joe Crede and Jon Garland. Jon Garland has too good of stuff not to be a great major-league starter and Joe Crede has all the tools to be an All-Star third baseman. beck72
You got to give Ozzie credit for not sugar coating things, esp to the papers so we fans know what the manager is thinking. Some may say Ozzie shouldn't call out Garland or Crede. Yet he does it in a mostly positive way, challenging them to perform up to their capabilities. And he's saying what most fans [and the players themselves] would agree on. Both have had disappointing seasons because they had the talent and experience to make the biggest improvements from 2003 to this yr. DBAHO
But another team should give him more money. The Mets and Giants most likely, with the Orioles as possible sleepers.
LDF
and if we offer him arb and he signs with another team we get comp picks. these picks will offset the picks we are going to loose when in hit the fa market.
WHarris1
I don't know who would come up with the idea, but I know I would probably eat Joe Crede because he's not hitting and he never eats anything bad. I know he's healthy. If I tried to eat Juan Uribe, I know my stomach would get all screwed up because of all the junk he eats.

The question I have is this: Has any pick we have made in a free agent loss situation ever made it to the bigs with our team and helped us? The only one I remember is Tom Seaver and you don't get those type of considerations anymore in the compensation arena. If we lose Maggs the only think positive is the $14M a year in salary that can go to other needs, but I would still like to see Maggs return. Albert Belle came here and reset the single season RBI and HR records and then left town before his hip gave out. I consider that a really succesful FA signing. ELo came here as an FA and was Cy Young runner up. Shingo also came here as an FA.
