September 14, 200421 yr Go Finland! This is going to be an awesome game. I think the Finns are going to play a solid, well-rounded game, and upset the Canadiens. I also think that this will be Ruutu's best game of the tourney. JMHO. Go Finns! Go Ruutu! But - let's just hope we see one hell of a hockey game...

Ruutu has been playing solid yet unspectacular. Sort of a Kyle Calder type of work, gritty without much results in this tourney so far (well, Calder usually gets goals, so maybe that isn't a good comparison). I want to see Ruutu take a run at Mario or Sakic. That'd be awesome...

Someone tell me if I'm watching this game through the 'Ruutu-Shaded Glasses', but on every shift, Ruutu seems to always be around the puck. He hustles to cancel icing calls, hustles to get the dump ins. Great hockey game so far.

A salary cap. Players don't want one, owners want one. I'm not all into the economics of sports, perhaps someone could elaborate more...
September 15, 200421 yr The owners want a salary cap, because they say they've lost almost 2 billion dollars in the last few years due to salaries being way higher than revenues. The players don't want salaries based on revenue, which I think is pretty goddamn stupid. They need to step up and realize that the sport is waning in popularity, and this just might kill it.

Ya, they definitely need to decide on something because if there is a lockout the sport is going to be basically dead.

Hopefully, the first of many - except in a Blackhawk uniform... f*** yeah it was. That was the highlight of my night. He must have been on Cloud 9 during the 2nd intermission. I'm so happy he got a goal. It's really a shame the Fins lost.
September 15, 200421 yr Just listen to Van Earl Wright. The players are getting about 66.7% of all revenue in the form of salary. This doesn't even take into account the other costs the franchise have and what not. Plus, hockey doesn't even have a tv contract, well at least not a substantial one. The players better figure this out, otherwise hockey is done. No one can the owners pay these guys ridiculous amounts of money. If they want that kind of money, find ways to increase NHL's marketability and fan base and revenue streams and what not and then the pay scale should go up based on that. I still see a very long hold out. The owners just don't have anywhere to go, most of em are making absolutely nothing.
