September 19, 200421 yr Sox are actually winning 3-0 if anyone f***ing cares. Just wanted to point that out.

September 19, 200421 yr Will someone please me explain to me why Ozzie is leaving Garcia in for the 8th? He was at 105 pitches coming into this injury, and everyone knows of his forearm problems the last few months. There's no reason to even risk injury with Freddy.

Because it's absolutely vital that we win this game; we're only 12.5 back.
September 19, 200421 yr Who the hell knows what OZ is thinking anyomore. A LOT of questionable decisions coming from Ozzie the last week or so. I liked the hiring, but this year has left big question marks in my mind.
September 19, 200421 yr 121 pitches for Freddy today. This season can't end soon enough for Ozzie, it seems like he's getting dumber each day.
September 19, 200421 yr I just cant wait till the season ends to stop hear you b****. It should be nice. Thanks for the great insight. I guess you would love to see Freddy go 130 pitches then? Any Sox fan that is content with the way things have been handled this year is more blind than our current management. There's no other way to categorize this season than as a disaster. But don't worry, we're trying to completely rebuild our team to fit the wants of our manager. Why not just select a manger who has a philosopy that fits the personnel on the team?
September 19, 200421 yr Author I've had a pretty good record in the season. So far, I'm 3-1 in game threads.
September 19, 200421 yr Unless he swells up like Popeye overnight, we now know that Freddy's forearm is OK. Removing this doubt has a big impact on off season moves.
September 19, 200421 yr The guy had a shutout going, and had back-to-back walks. Oz pulled him, thats pretty much standerd. Freddy hasnt shown anything wrong since he was out for a while. I think the Sox were just being very safe with the forearm, which is fine, dont have a problem with. You just pick things out to b**** about. I wouldnt really have a problem with it if you had ANYTHING positive to say. Just click on "find all members post" for youself, and look at the 1st page. There isnt a single post thats positve. The season the last mounth has been garbage, but there have been positives, so dont give me "All I see is negitive" bulls***. Does that matter? Each argument should be taken on its merits, and I think fathom had a point, here. Even if you disagree, noone can deny that it's reasonable.

Considering that Freddy has been saying how sore he felt after his last few starts, which were about 90 pitches, the problem I have is that there's absolutely nothing to gain by leaving him in for the 7th over the 100 pitch mark. He had no shot at a shutout cause of the high pitch count, so why not take him out after the 7th and bring in the bullpen in a 6-0 game. And in regards to being positive, I've been constantly saying how great of a season Rowand has been having. Sorry I haven't been joining other posters in claiming how great Timo is or how Cotts can be an all-star.
September 19, 200421 yr Author Starting in the 5th inning doesnt count. Hey, if we would have lost, I would have taken it. So tomato tomado.
September 19, 200421 yr 121 pitches for Freddy today. This season can't end soon enough for Ozzie, it seems like he's getting dumber each day. I have a lot of questions about some of Ozzies game day strategies and off the cuff remarks. However we're getting all too anal about this pitch count thing. Ace pitchers used to regularly throw ..... drumroll now........ COMPLETE GAMES! Imagine that. I know 1971 is ancient history to most here but southpaw Mickey Lolich actually pitched over 370 innings all by himself that year. He made 45 starts and completed 29 of them. You know what? His arm didn't fall off. 71 was the first of 4 straight years that he threw 300 or more innings! Even into the 80's stud starting pitchers could and would go over 300 innings. What has made the modern day hurler so fragile? I sure as hell don't know. Lots of pitchers threw both hard and a variety of pitches in the long ago. Lolich had a varied repotoire, he was not a soft tosser. It would be a big help to the game if teams started developing more sturdy starting pitchers, not the brittle china dolls we have now. If a team only carried 10 pitchers then you have more bench strength and maneuverability to win the close games in the late innings. As far as Garcia goes, I know he had recent arm problems but I think he is stronger and has more stamina than most of his contemporaries. I don't think Ozzie ruined him today. If he feels well I'd send him out again with his four days rest and not let him go much past 100 in his next start. Only because today's pitchers are conditioned physically and psychologically to go no more than 110 pitches or so. That needs to change.

But when you're playing for nothing? Rest him, heck, put him on the DL and be done w/ it. At this point, don't risk anything.
