I know he can play RF, even though his main position is LF. Ozzie probably would be able to get him straightened out and his $3 million dollar for the last year of his contract. That would give Anderson a good amount of time in AA and AAA, so he can be ready for 2006. Plus, what would we have to give up for Guillen, Harris and somebody else. He is wanted in Anaheim and the Sox could give him a good home with all their latin players and coaches. Any thought?

D'Angelo Jimenez can't put a team on his back and carry them for a month either. Another thing...Jimenez doesn't play balls out like Guillen does. He played with a broken wrist last year, and has been a huge part in getting the Angels where they are now.

 

It would be unwise, IMO, to not go after him.

We have a crowded outfield? Everett should be nothing more than a bench player and joe blow needs to be in the minors yet again. Then they can get rid of timo and escobar can take his place. I am not saying to give a s*** load for him but if there is a good offer we might as well chance it.

yes, borchard and his down-syndrome lookin ass should be in the minors, but a $5 mil signing bonus makes it hard for the sox to send him down yet again. kenny doesnt want to look dumb...um, dumber than people think he is. Everett is only a year removed from an all-star game, and he's only 33. I'm not sayin he's gonna put up monster numbers, but he's a decent option. Perez has done a good job off the bench. And we're talking about kenny williams. He always gives up too much.

Once again, Cincinatti dealt him to Oakland because they were going nowhere and Oakland made them a good offer(one that included Aaron Harang and Joe Valentine). And Oakland did not resign him due to financial reasons. I don't know what happened the other times...whether he was just crappy, or there was an attitude problem or both...but he was not gotten rid of by Cincinatti and Oakland because he's a piece of s***.

 

Remember, this is a guy that played with a broken wrist in Oakland down the stretch last year, so you can't say he's not a team player.

You don't think Oakland could have afforded his $2.2 million salary this year? Sorry, that doesn't fly.

 

You may be able to explain why a guy got traded once or twice, but with six teams in six years there is something wrong.

 

Like I said before...... things that go on inside a locker room DO affect how a team performs. There are certain guys you want to stay away from and ignore the numbers.

2003 Season

Free-swinging Jose Guillen, who enjoyed a banner 2003, was Billy Beane's surprise stretch-run acquisition. Acquired at the trade deadline to spark a struggling outfield, Guillen's numbers dropped with his arrival in Oakland. After posting an on-base-plus-slugging of 1.014 with the Reds, his mark was .770 in 45 games with Oakland. A broken hamate bone in his left hand, with which Guillen played during the playoffs, may have hurt his production.

 

 

Hitting, Baserunning & Defense

Maybe it was because Oakland batters took a cumulative hit to their on-base percentage in 2003 that the temporary use of Guillen was acceptable. Though Guillen did clear the 30-homer mark last year, he was the same free swinger he had always been. He continues to be a butcher in the field, and his 12 errors last season suggest that isn't going to change. His terrific arm-he collected nine assists last year-sometimes offsets his bad glove. Guillen has decent speed but is not much of a basestealer.

 

 

2004 Outlook

Guillen's tenure in Oakland was destined to be brief, even if he had had good numbers. He probably will bag a nice deal somewhere after his 30-homer 2003, but it is unlikely he will deliver a big return on a long-term contract.
