ESPN is reporting this on this morning's SportsCenter.

He reportedly admitted to a Federal Grand Jury that he obtained the 'roids from Barry Bonds' trainer and got human growth hormones from a San Diego gym.

 

EDITED to clarify that this is Jason Giambi, and he admitted to using them during his AL MVP season and earlier, and that Jeremy Giambi also testified to receiving steroids from Bonds' trainer as well.

Aren't Grand Jury testimonies sealed. How does stuff like this get out? How many other players testified too? I don't know enough on the subject to really comment, but nobody's surprized about Jason Giambi after they saw him this year on his "miracle diet". But I would expect him to sue if he can cause I didn't think that stuff was public record.

Full text of the article there. It says he was granted full immunity and that his brother also admitted to using banned substances. I expect this won't be the last of these confessions.

These aren't the shocking revelations yet. It will be interesting when people who were never even thought of as users, start coming out of the closet, so to speak.

I love how he tried to play it off like he "just lost some weight" this offseason.

 

Take his numbers away and ban him for life from baseball and send him a card wishing him and his pinhead size testicles a wonderful life.

How?

Just my opinion and my Frank bias shining through. Looking at the stats from those two in 2000, Giambi's numbers were better. I guess Giambi did deserve it.

Which leads to the most obsurd part in all this. Why isn't anything that is illegal in "real life" also against the rules in baseball? One simple line at the end of the rulebook. Use small words so everyone can understand.

It would be impossible to enforce a rule that simply states "performance enhancing drugs are against the rules". Coffee could enhance performance. There has to be a list of banned drugs, or banned categories of drugs.

 

I am not saying what they did was right, clearly it wasn't within anyone's definition of fair play and sportsmanship. I am just pointing out that IMHO baseball really didn't care if Shammee and McGuire were juiced up as long as they increased television viewer ship, put asses in the stands, and hit home runs. For the real power brokers in baseball, the players are commodities, tools, overpriced talent they have to put up with. But they know long after the player is retired with a bad back and acne scars, they will still be there with new players.
