C_LEE45
We should go after Matheny,He is a heck of a catcher and thats something we havent had in a long time, and would be great for our sinker ball pitchers, whatta you all thing
AngelasDaddy0427
I can't say I disagree... However it depends on the price...
WSFAN35
The only problem that I see with Matheny is that he doesn't really know anything about AL hitters. Calling games has alot to do with being familiar with who's at the plate.

I have heard he will get around 2.5 million next year which i would not like to pay for mathney.
GoodAsGould
the only catcher i wanted was kendall but now that he is gone i think we will just have to settle for our 2 scrubs because no one else except variteck who wants 2 much is worth getting
Chisoxfn
The catcher I want is Pyrz. He's available and could be had. Good defensively and far superior offensively. Let me put it this way. Did everyone take note of how Posada and some of the Yanks say how they would welcome Pedro on the bronx. I know Pyrz isn't as good as Pedro is, but Pedro is absolutely hated by the Yankees. Pedro seemed open to the chance of going to New York and the players are open. I don't doubt it would be the same with the Sox. They know about the type of teammate Pyrz can be. He's the kind of guy you want on your team and absolutely hate playing. As far as the reports that he wasn't liked in SF. I've heard it was all BS and it stemmed from one misunderstanding. The pitchers later said they liked Pyrz from what I remember. And I know Minny always liked him.

That is your opinion, that is my opinion and I'm pretty sure its Kenny's opinion. He targeted Kendall, it didn't happen, and now he'll stand pat with a Davis/Burke tandum. Let's just hope he makes some significant offensive improvements at some other positions.

BlackBetsy
No thanks on Matheny - his career .293 will cost the Sox more runs than they will save with him behind the plate. I'd rather have Todd Pratt, who has a career .355 OBP, take 200 AB behind the plate and let Jamie Burke and Ben Davis split the rest of the time. Gregg Zaun - as weird as it may be - would not be a bad option, either. If the Rockies pick up $5 million per year on Charles Johnson's deal (or if they want to trade Johnson and a pitcher for Contreras), CJ may not be a bad deal. He doesn't hit like he used to, but he still has a decent batting eye and can get on base. Defensively, we all know he's solid. Let's face it, the catching solution is not going to come for the 2005 season. And the Sox have no catching prospects on the horizon who will start above low-A ball next year.
