December 10, 200421 yr Supposedly Detroit does not see him as an everyday CF. He is arbitration eligible this season and they have until December 20th to make him an offer. Rumor is they will either sign him and trade him or let him go. Now I know he does not have the OBP that you would like from a leadoff hitter and he doesn't have any power, but he has a lot of speed and he is 28 years old. I would think we could grab this guy and put him in CF and he would lead off for us. We could move Carlos to 1B and have Dye play LF and Rowand play RF. This is just a thought. I am not sure if it seems like a fit or not, just wanted to throw it out there and see what people thought.
December 10, 200421 yr I think it's an after thought now. Before I would have loved Sanchez but with Dye there is no room for him. I think carlos has improved to much just to shove him over to first base but that's jmo.
December 10, 200421 yr i dont see us moving carlos lee to 1B after he just got comfortable at LF and we got a crowded OF as it is any more signings we make wont be for an outfielder or at least as a starter anyways.

Carlos could be pretty good at 1B and it would give us even more players that can run on the bases. How many teams have a 1B that can steal nearly 10-15 bases a season? It seems to make us better, but I don' know.
December 10, 200421 yr has carlos even ever played 1B id think he be more of a butcher there and especially with a guy like uribe wipping the ball at him

I don't think he would come at that steep of a price. I think we could afford it and it won't take away from any other signings that we could possibly make.
December 10, 200421 yr Author has carlos even ever played 1B id think he be more of a butcher there and especially with a guy like uribe wipping the ball at him Come on, Mark McGwire, Mike Piazza, and Carlton Fisk all played 1B. Are you saying Carlos is less mobile than them? It really isn't that difficult. You don't need to have a great defensive 1B.
December 10, 200421 yr Author Sanchez is gonna get non-tendered. 80% chance of that anyway. ok, what do you think of him? Would he fit here?
December 10, 200421 yr ok, what do you think of him? Would he fit here? Well he is not a lead-off hitter imo. He does not get on base nearly enough. So i do not really think we have a use for him. He is better off as an 8th or 9th place hitter.
December 10, 200421 yr Carlos was originally a 3B, so he's comfortable taking ground balls. Also, he has been taking IF practice a 1B for quite a while now. I guess he figures he'll end up over there eventually and it will extend his career. Which is actually good thinking on his part. So, yes, I think Lee at 1B is very doable.
December 10, 200421 yr As for Sanchez .... Everett, Rowand, Lee, Dye, Borchard, Escobar, Perez, Harris, Gload. No room for him.
December 10, 200421 yr Author As for Sanchez .... Everett, Rowand, Lee, Dye, Borchard, Escobar, Perez, Harris, Gload. No room for him. But we need a leadoff hitter Everett, Rowand, Lee, Dye, Borchard, Escobar, Perez, Harris, Gload are not leadoff hitters. Now if we get Renteria there is no need for a Sanchez.

December 10, 200421 yr He can bunt and knows how to run. I'd love him. Hell, I can bunt and know how to run. The fact I'm 47 years old and never could hit a curve shouldn't matter though.
December 10, 200421 yr He can bunt and knows how to run. I'd love him. He is not a lead-off hitter until he learns how to take some walks. Until then he should be hitting way down in the line-up.
