A.J. Pierzynski--news

Featured Replies

Word in Boston is that the Red Sox are still trying to unload ex-Twins first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are said to be interested in ex-Twins catcher A.J. Pierzynski, released Tuesday by the San Francisco Giants, but for about $1.5 million. That would be less than half of his salary this year.

If this is what the Red Sox are willing to pay, Kenny pay him $3 million a year; for a catcher of his calliber that's a hell of a bargain.

Yeah, 1.5 is how much Ben Davis makes.

NOt everyone looks in the rumors thread. It's too big of a mess.

from a boston paper not minn paper today:

A report out of Minnesota that the Sox had shown interest in former All-Star catcher A.J. Pierzynski appears to be premature. As long as they continue to have a shot at re-signing Varitek, the Sox will keep their distance from Pierzynski out of respect for the incumbent.

I couldn't agree more. Too hard to keep track of the rumors in that thread.

I think the Red Sox are playing games trying to get Varitek's price down.
