So you are saying that if he was on a team not as good as the cubs he would be in the pen? That makes no sense at all. You have an odd sense of humor.

My point is any other team would of put him in the pen after his Tommy John surgury or after his habit of barely being able to get out of the 6th inning without having to throw 120 pitches came out. I seriously doubt he ever wins more then 15 games in a season just because of his inability to keep his pitch count down.

Is he a good pitcher? Yes

Is he a solid starter? Yes

Would he be more valuable out of the pen? IMO Yes

No team would have put him in the bullpen and kept him there. Not one team.

Your telling me if you we're a GM, and you had a guy come back from possibly career ending Tommy John surgury, you put him in the pen and he had a ton of success.

You'd move him back to the rotation?

I'm not saying he's a bad starter. I just think he'd be more valuable to the Cubs in their pen (as they don't have anyone who can do s*** in their now besides Hawkins and he pisses his pants when you put him in the closers role).

Yes, i would put him back in the rotation. He is more valuable in the rotation rather than the pen whether you like to believe it or not. I would keep him in the pen for a while, but long term? Hell no. Especially at the age he had the injury, he was so young, so i may keep in the pen for a whole year to make sure his arm strength is at 100%.

ortiz has spent his whole career in the NL in a nice braves stadium with possibly the best pitching coach in the league.... book it this year zambrano in the NL in a pitchers park will have a better era than ortiz

Ortiz spent most of his career in Candlestick/Pac Bell.

I agree that most teams would have him as a starter instead of just an arm in the pen. BUT in my opinion, he would be the MOST valuable as a closer. I think he would be lights out, and would stay healthy all year, which would make him more valuable OVERALL.

There are exceptions to every rule, but generally closers are not all that valuable. Well, more accurately, they are more easily replaced than a quality starter. Hell, Billy Beane changes closers like the Bears change quarterbacks.
