Mackowiak

Well, with Cairo signing with the Mets, no action on the Alex Cora front, and talks with Iguchi coming to a standstill, should Kenny look into Rob Mackowiak? That's right...he's still available.

Yes, the same Mackowiak that killed the Northsiders during that fateful double-header.

Mackowiak, an Oak Lawn native, has become one of the best bench players in the game. Rob, a third baseman by trade, can play 3B, 2B, OF, and an emergency 1B. Often hitting clean-up in the Pirates' dilapidated batting order, Rob can rake.

My question: should Kenny take a look at the life-long Sox fan and consider inking him to a multi-year deal? In my opinion, Mackowiak could not only contribute to the 2005 Sox, but also the 2006 Sox and beyond. Rob gives Kenny security in dealing Crede (if he fails to step it up this year) and can become a first-class stopgap until Josh Fields is ready.
