White Sox sent catcher Jamie Burke outright to Triple-A Charlotte.

Burke was removed from the 40-man roster to make room for A.J. Pierzynski. If he accepts the assignment -- and he probably will -- he'll be invited to spring training to battle for a bench spot.

Despite setback, backup catcher willing to work"

I wouldn't be surprised if he beat out Ben Davis. Ozzie likes the keed (sic).

SMart move by Burke. He knows not too many teams will sign a 33 year old minor league catcher, no matter what he hit last year.

I'm just glad we have him in order to backup in case of injury or even be the third catcher on the roster.

Burke knows he's valued by the Sox and has a decent chance of seeing some ML roster time this year. I fully expected him to stay with the organization.

Some good news in a very strange nice. I really enjoy watching him play.

Yeah I wasn't thinking if he was at soxfest that he wouldn't be in the organization...

I like Jamie, I really do. I'm glad we landed him a couple ST's ago.

best of luck to him on his desision.
