January 26, 200521 yr QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) I just don't think Urbina is worth the price. He is going to make $4 million in 2005 and seems to only pitch well in the N.L. I don't see how we can add that payroll. Although, I would have no problem dumping Willie for him. Yeah, we as fans don't think we have the payroll for it, but if KW/JR did trade Willie for Urbina then we have the payroll space. I don't think we should be talking about payroll anymore, as we filled all of our needs and are just looking for ways to further improve. Hey, if JR is willing to spend it, let him!
January 26, 200521 yr QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) I think you're underestimating Harris' trade value. Yes, that's right. I'm saying it. Especially if you look at that depth chart. Harris has shown flashes of life at the major leauge level and I'm sure there are teams (5-10+) that would love to give him a shot. His window of opportunity is rapidly closing on the Southside, but not in the MLB. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29068

I'm sure there is a team out there that would want Willie though.

I'll give you three guesses as to what my vote was, and the first two don't count. EDIT: BTW, thanks to everyone that participated in the poll. I was actually quite suprised that pro-trade got as many votes as it did. Harris has legions of followers here at Soxtalk.

I'm just saying. It seems the majority, which I am one, am satisfied with him on the bench. When you compare him to other bench players around the league, can't you agree that he'd be one of the best? I want to see Willie in a Sox uni next year.
January 26, 200521 yr If we are gonna get a pen arm in return for Willie we are gonna need to find a team that has a pretty deep pen or a dier need for a 2B. The Cubs will not trade Farnsworth for him. Why would they? I personally would love him here, but it would take more than Willie to get him. I like the Cards idea as they always have pretty good young arms over there.

I think you are ultimately going to get your wish. I believe Harris will be with the Sox at least through ST. However, I don't think he's one of the best bench players in baseball. He has no versatility in the IF (where we need it most), and I don't think he can reach his "lofty potential," without getting a bulk of the starts, which will not be happening with the addition of Iguchi. That said, I think your argument echoes most pro-Willie posters here. I humbly disagree.

January 26, 200521 yr I certainly think it would be foolish to trade Willie too soon. In case Iguchi doesn't work out, its always good to have a back up who can play defense.
January 26, 200521 yr I really think the Sox are so disenfrachised with Harris that he'll be gone before ST. The Cubs are also unhappy with the Farns ... so that may be doable. (nod to Steff) ..... They'd have to negotiate a way to even it out ... but it may be a case to where both teams take a chance that "a fresh start" helps both players.

January 26, 200521 yr I think he could be one of the best 2B bench players in baseball. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As Long as he stays on the Bench then Yes... you could be right!
January 26, 200521 yr Why do you guys think that the Cubs would trade Farnsworth for another lefty 2nd baseman when they just signed Walker for 2 years and have a weak bullpen as it is? :headshake <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not to speak for Yas but I think he's merely suggesting it's possible, seeing as both teams seem to be really frustrated with their respective players. Cubs have a few young guys who might fill bullpen spots, although I agree with you their bullpen is of concern to them. But they are definitely frustrated with Farnsworth. As for their possible interest in Harris ... personally, I don't see a fit. If Walker were righthanded, maybe.
January 26, 200521 yr In the Cubune last Friday it emphasized how badly the Cubs need speed. 11th in the NL in SB's. Patterson 32, D Lee (12), no one else in double digits. They have done nothing in the off season to address this. So I would think they'd have to be interested in Harris. What you have to ask is do they have a greater need for Harris or Farnsy? Most of the Cub fans pestered Hendry with questions as to why is Farnsy still here? They expected him gone. As for the Sox we need Farns more than Harris. He's an upgrade over Adkins & as much greater upside potential than Adkins. $-wise the Cubs save 800K in the swap.

Farnsworth, who made $1.4 million last season, remains a candidate to be traded, but the Cubs haven't been as eager to move him as expected. What is Willie set to make in 2005? $400,000? If so, the Cubs would be saving $1,575,000.
January 26, 200521 yr QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) Julio Lugo is a wife beater. No thanks. They either found him not guillty or she dropped the charges. I forget which it is.
January 26, 200521 yr I know Walker's a lefty. I know the Cubs are worried about their bullpen. But this is matter that goes beyond that kind of thing. JimH spoke very well for me (thank you). It's trading a dimished value player for a dimished value pitcher, due to things other than their skill levels. It was just an idea and based purely on what was said above. I wouldn't even go so far as to classify it as speculation. Just a thought.
January 26, 200521 yr QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) How many times was Koch hitting triple digits in a White Sox uniform? If you throw 100+mph, you're valuable. We've already got a drunken headcase who can top 100+. Three cheers to Bobby Jenks.

I've always loved Farns' stuff, I'd love to have him on the Southside. Even if he doesn't work out with us, I mean, there has to be a spot on the Bears for him -- that guy can tackle! Anyways, I'd definitely throw the Cubs Harris and Adkins for Farnsy. I doubt they do it, but man -- that guy has some awesome friggin stuff... Nasty curve, awesome fastball -- plus, the build of a football player.

My point is that a pitcher can have a 100 mph fastball but without any control it doesn't mean much. He had a 100 mph fastball and was pretty good with it. I doubt he throws 100 anymore. Also, does Jenks even throw 100 anymore? I thought I read that he was 95-96 right now....Maybe not.
