you should post -- There's been far too many "what nickname should we give...." and "OMG Oprah is a Sox fan" threads lately... it would be nice to get back to some substance.

We could really use some more new bulls*** stats threads.

Why did you use green?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 02:05 PM)
Why did you use green?

Because these projections for next year are really stupid. (ZiPS, and other s***.)

I also saw a new way to "calculate" patience by a hitter. (OBP)-(BA.) :rolly

Give me a break.

The games are not played on paper.

I assume SABRsox has other things to talk about other than sabermetrics. SABR, do you know any famous Sox fans? :P

By my earlier question of "why did you use green?" I was agreeing with you. :P

That's not exactly cutting edge stuff right there.... But it is very useful

              OBP

Crede Uribe

2002 .311 .286

2003 .308 .297

2004 .299 .327

Both players have a nice trend going here. So we can assume that Crede must be getting worse at taking walks, and Uribe is getting better right?

WRONG

              ISO

Crede Uribe

2002 .026 .046

2003 .047 .043

2004 .060 .044

Uribe has been walking at almost exactly the same rate, his rising OBP was directly tied to his rising BA. Meanwhile, Crede has been walking more often, yet, his OBP has fallen because his BA has been falling.

So how is that useful?

How long did it take you to come up with that one?

Usually having a man on base is 'useful' to an offense.

Quit trying to argue with me for the sake of arguing 406. God. :headshake

I was talking about the way some of these stat heads try to calculate patience from BA and OBP.

I'll drop my argumentative ways (which, I do -- wrongfully so, at that, a real bad habit that must be dropped before I begin college), if you drop the 'bulls*** stats' line... :)

I don't think all stats are bulls***, just some of the newer ones.

Foulke's best season was NOT 2000! :chair What about K-Rod's season in 2004?
