I wouldn't mind seeing Crede become like Adrian Beltre next season. By the time Boras starts asking for a $100 million contract for Crediocre, Josh Fields should be ready.

I think we have control of him arbitration wise for another 2 or 3 seasons, but the Sox have shown this season with Rowand and Uribe that they'll get these guys locked up. Maybe Crede will change agents like Uribe did if he really wants to stay here.

I don't think Joe crede had much to do with Josh Fields being drafted. I think he was the best available player. I htink it's different in baseball like that. Look at how Matt Bush was drafted with Khalil in front of him.

I haven't heard a player complain about what Boras has done for them. He isn't for everyone, and certainly small market, low payroll teams, need not apply. But name another agent with his stable of players.

 

He also does an incredible job of taking the villian role and allowing his players to somewhat be shielded from the uglies. Taking the PR hit is exactly what most agents should be doing and helps to maximize his player's marketability.

 

In this case he's trying to get Maggs a long term deal. How is that not in Maggs best interest? It isn't up to either side to find a "fair deal" they each try for their best and in the balance something fair comes.

The problem is, if this is like most companies it is a zero sum gain. Payroll is a fixed number. If they pay you an extra $45k they have to cut that somewhere else. So instead of having guys who know how to do their jobs, you get a couple of newbies out of college who screw everything up, and make your job twice as hard. See also the Texas Rangers. ARod was surrounded with horrible players until the draftees could work through the system and start to contribute. By the time they were ready, they had decided they couldn't afford to pay one guy that much so they instead got a more moderately paid player and balanced the money around. Another great example of that is the White Sox taking Maggs and Carlos's money and turning it into a plethora of players and making the team as a whole more solid.

Yes, but telling a player to sign for less so the team can pay other players isn't. If the team doesn't think they can be successful paying the player that contract, THEY should not sign him to that contract.
