In the Rockets deal, Thomas is sending back $8 million in future salaries and getting back $18 million in return. In total, the Knicks, who have the largest payroll in the league, will add an extra $32 million in future salaries.

For the Rockets, this trade was a salary dump and an effort to shore up a thin point-guard crop.

For the Spurs, not only did the clear $21 million in long term salary, they got another legit center in Mohammed – something the team felt the desperately needed.

Isiah does it again!!! :bang :bang

I kinda liked the Celtics (mostly just Jefferson/Allen/West/Blount) up until today.......

Walker returns to Celtics in shocker

By Chad Ford, ESPN.com

The Hawks Thursday sent Antoine Walker back to the Celtics in return for Gary Payton, Michael Stewart and Tom Gugliotta, league sources told ESPN Insider Chad Ford.

Walker is averaging 20.4 points in over 40 minutes a game this season. He played for the Celtics from 1996 to 2003.

So who's the winners in all of these... I have to admit, I'm pretty stupid when it comes to the NBA.

I liked Philly's move last night, but what does this next one do?

WTF? is up with Isiah?

How smart is the San Anton GM? whoever that is?

Ainge=Kenny Williams?

How many more times does Van Horne get traded on his career?

I really like the 76er's and what they've done the pase two days. Picking up a low post player that was desperately needed in Chris Webber, Picked up Jamal Mashburn solid and addition by subtraction by dumping Big Dog.

He managed to clear up a good chunk of payroll (most likely with Tony Parker's free agency in mind), and he acquired a guy who I thought was the frontrunner for Most Improved Player Of The Year back in early January (Nazr Mohammed), but losing Malik is big if we're talking about team chemistry.

Still though, he comes out ahead in this one.

Taken from Yahoo:

Due to continuous problems with his right knee, Mashburn has spent the entire 2004-05 campaign on the injured list. He is making $9.3 million this year and is slated to earn $10.1 million next season.

Reportedly, because of patella femoral irritation, the knee still swells badly after any strenuous activity. There is a chance Mashburn may never play again.

Ya but when does Mashburn's contract expire? That may be why they picked him up. Get rid of Glen Robinson and his giant contract and pick up $9.3 mil in expiring money. Also they got the 49 year old Rodney Rodgers in the deal, no really gonna help much but could be a factor off the bench.

I just checked the contract status of Robinson and Mashburn and I now know that I am absolutely wrong. Robinson's contract is up after this year and Mashburn has two more years after this year.

Ainge=Kenny Williams?

That's actually a major insult to Kenny Williams, seeing as how Danny Ainge is borderline retarded.

You can't win with Antoine Walker.

This makes the Celtics a better team in the short term, but that franchise should be thinking strictly long term at this point. You're gonna hear all of the old cliches. The East is weak right now, anything can happen, etc. Yeah, I know. :rolly

Mashburn= dead.

Rogers is the key player in that deal. If mashburn was healthy they would never do this. He is easily top three small foward in the nba.

Um, didn't ainge just talk s*** about walker a year or two ago? Right after he traded him away.

Oh ya when Mashburn is healthy he can do anything on the court. He can put up 20, 6 and 2 plus shoot 38% from three.

Ya, Ainge riped Walker for being selfish, taking to many shots and not being a team player. How the f*** do you trade for a guy that you talked about like that.

Mashburn is done.

I read somewhere that insurance is paying 80% of his salary next season, and then the Sixers can buy him out of the rest, due to the amount of time he's been on IR.

Basically he's a big expiring contract. (with insurance paying for most of whats left on it)

Yeah, I remember that.

Also, unless I'm missing something, this is going to put a lot of pressure on Delonte West and Marcus Banks. Payton was a good stop-gap. I dunno if Marcus Banks is much of a point guard. He could play a little defense, but that's about it.

Can you imagine how pissed payton has to be right now? He didn't want to play with the celtics becasue he thought they were gonna suck. Now he is truly on a s***ty ass team.

Picking up Twan for Boston was not good.

GS made a pretty good move. Although I'm biased as Baron is one of my favorites.

Edited by WHarris1

How do the Mavs get trades that benafit them all the time? I don't know where they stand on the salary cap, but it has to be pretty high.

LOL

Isaiah is great...

AI and CWebb, the Sixers are a playoff lock IMO.

Wow.

C - dampier/bradley.

PF - dirk/van horn.

SF - josh Howard/stackhouse.

SG - finley/stackhouse.

PG - terry/harris.

Rumor has it the hawks will cut payton and he will resign with the celtics.

Come own back, stop-gap! :D
