March 1, 200521 yr http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Everett brings own stats, personality to DH role TUCSON, Ariz. -- White Sox designated hitter Carl Everett is replacing Frank Thomas in the lineup, but he is quick to point out he is not the Big Hurt. Everett, acquired in a trade with Montreal on July 18, is expected to be in the starting lineup Wednesday when the Sox begin the Cactus League season against Colorado. "I am Carl Everett," Everett said. "I am here to do whatever my manager asks me to do, and that is my role." Thomas, a two-time American League MVP, is not expected to report to camp for at least another few days depending on his next doctor's appointment for an injured left ankle. Ozzie Guillen has said he doesn't expect Thomas to be ready until at least June. Everett appears healthy after a troublesome 2004 season that saw him go down with a variety of medical ailments. He worked on getting into shape this offseason, and extensive conditioning workouts and weight lifting appear to have paid off. The 10-year veteran doesn't feel he has to show off just because he's filling Thomas' DH spot. The career .277 hitter has 168 career homers. "Pitchers fear me. Other teams fear me. My manager and coaches know I can play," Everett said. "I don't have to prove anything to (the media). Players know I can play." Everett struggled last year, suffering a variety of injuries that limited him to just one game after Sept. 8. "The reason we told him to get into shape is not because of Frank, but because he is a big part of this team," Guillen said. "(Everett) was out of shape last year. This year he has showed up in good shape. He is somebody that can help us." What happens if Everett is playing well when Thomas is ready to return? "I guess that is a good problem to have," White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko said. Notes: The Sox starting lineup against Colorado on Wednesday will be left fielder Scott Podsednik, second baseman Tadahito Iguchi, designated hitter Carl Everett, first baseman Paul Konerko, right fielder Jermaine Dye, catcher A.J. Pierzynski, center fielder Aaron Rowand, third baseman Joe Crede and shortstop Juan Uribe. The Sox will start pitcher Jon Adkins against Colorado's Jamey Wright. ... Korean born pitcher Sang-Ho Moon had a brief tryout for the Sox on Tuesday, throwing around 95 miles per hour, sporting a fastball, splitter and a slider. No decision was made. He's too a great season from Carl

I guess he's really comfortable here. He's too a great season from Carl Carl is going to have a monster year for us, I'm interested to see how Ozzie juggles the lineup once Frank is back but that's obviously a good problem to have. Also that lineup that is starting tomorrow is supposed to be the norm against right handed pitchers this year according to the score. I personally like Carl in the 3 spot over Dye against rhp, jmo. March 1, 200521 yr I hope Carl has a big year too, we need it. Is it just me, or does he seem to be getting testy with the media again? Last week he said he was glad Bonds made the media look stupid and now this little jab. C'mon Carl, be above it.
March 1, 200521 yr I don't see anything wrong with the quotes in that article.... Edited March 1, 200521 yr by greasywheels121

March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Hey Carl we need you to take a paycut to say League Min.. Lets see how well he takes that. Now why would we need to do that? I think he's roughly worth what he's getting and he seems to be happy with it. We don't need a bad clubhouse.
March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) I don't see anything wrong with the quotes in that article.... In fairness, we don't know what was asked, or how it was asked, but no one except Carl brought up him having to prove something to the media. Where'd that come from?? Kinda defensive, no?
March 1, 200521 yr Carl didn't always keep himself in the best shape or make the best plays but I have never had a problem with his attitude as a member of this team. This year looks like he's trying to get back to early 2003 form and I think we would all love to see him get there.
March 1, 200521 yr Korean born pitcher Sang-Ho Moon had a brief tryout for the Sox on Tuesday, throwing around 95 miles per hour, sporting a fastball, splitter and a slider. No decision was made Anyone know anything about this guy? Tried to search him in google and hit a blank, but interesting to see the Sox are trying to get another country involved. hehe SB
March 1, 200521 yr I've always liked Jurassic in a Sox uniform. It seems like his confidence is in the right place, lets hope the lbs. are.
March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) ANd you know this because? You think frank thomas should make two million at the most too. Go figure.

March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) nope 3 You lose. Below his worth?? WTF, 6 million when all he has to do his come up to hit 3-4times a game, compared to Caberea who playes the feild.. ooo one other question for you.. How Many WS rings does Thomas have compared to Caberea? Thomas should get a 2 year 2mil deal with incentives..nothing more.
March 1, 200521 yr There are probably 7 teams in the AL that would offer Thomas more than 3M per year right now, even while he's hurt, guaranteed money -- as in, no incentives. So yea...like Qwerty said, you lose. -y2
March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) 3 with incentives.. keep trying jerky You lose.
March 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) 3 with incentives.. keep trying jerky Give up, he proved you wrong. You lose, take it like a man
March 2, 200521 yr Thomas is a .270 30 100 .950 player when he is at about 90%. Those kinds of hitters are worth $5 mill at the very least. And I too think Everett is going to have a great year. I don't see why he wouldn't.
March 2, 200521 yr "I am Carl Everett," Everett said. "I am here to do whatever my manager asks me to do, and that is my role." OZ: Carl, bark like a dog. CE: Woof, woof. OZ: Sing a showtune. CE: tomorrow, tomorrow, i'll love ya tomorrow.... OZ: Admit the existence of dinosaurs. CE: (Silence) OZ: I said admit the existence of dinosaurs. CE: (Walking away) I ain't never seen one.
