Kerry Wood - Mark Prior injuries

Featured Replies

That last headline just had me laughing. Wood and Prior for 40 wins, yeah right.

From Stone:

''I won't name names, but coming out of camp last year at times was [the opinion] that Prior probably wasn't tough enough. That he had to pitch with pain. That he has to go out there, that's what major-league pitchers do. I have to believe if he's telling you he's hurting, he's hurting. And because they can't find a cause doesn't make the pain any less real. So you've got a multimillion-dollar talent, you want to keep running him out there and saying he's not tough enough? Well, I'll tell you what: Let him go and see if anybody else picks him up.''

Wow! Good stuff. I heard this on North this morning. North was saying Stone pretty much called Prior a pussy. Looks the same to me. Go Stoney!

Stone again:

''Wood has shown no adaptability,'' Stone said. ''He wants to throw the ball 95 to 96 [mph]; he wants to throw it at times through the catcher. When he loses his mechanics, he can't get them back again. Somebody is going to have to tell Kerry the object of the game is to pitch. That's why they call you a pitcher. If not, they call you a thrower. And if they call you a thrower, and if you keep saying you can't change your mechanics, and if in fact your mechanics are partially responsible for you getting hurt every year, you've got a couple of choices: You can take all the money you've made --which is a bundle -- and you can go sell cars. Or you can make some adjustments and try to stay around this league for 10 years.

''The sky is the limit with his talent -- nobody ever questioned that. And of course Kerry is the vocal leader of this pitching staff. Well, the vocal leader has to go to the mound every now and then. And [Greg] Maddux doesn't say anything or he would be the leader, with 17 straight years of 15 wins or more, something that Wood has yet to accomplish.''

He's on fire!

I didn't read it that way at all.

The way I took that quote was Stone saying that people will unfairly question Prior's willingness to pitch through pain, when he really shouldn't pitch through the pain. Since he is seen as the franchise pitcher of the future for them, they shouldn't run him out there and risk his future. And I took that last sentence to mean, if they think he's a pussy, release him and watch 29 other teams disagree.

Mariotti:

It's mortifying, enough to make a Cubs fan become a White Sox fan.

We don't want you, jackass!

Yeah, I read it again. I was WAY off. Sorry.

Mariotti again:

But then, the season is pretty much sold out already. So what do the Tribsters care?

Is he finally getting it?

  • 2 weeks later...

Bruce Levine just came on and said Kerry Wood was suppose to pitch today woke up with a sore back and will be held out... doesn't this sound like a theme???

He has his moments ... but overall? Forget it!

probably flub misdirection, I bet it's not a sore back but is still the arm. Did you hear last week when Stone ripped Green-light Kim? Stoney has taken the gloves off and is going for a knockout

I read that last week and to me it seemed like a crack at the team, not at Prior. The quote is chopped up and editted poorly, but that's what I got from it.

I bet North's dumb ass took it and ran though.

he's just a good newspaper salesman...

from todays trib...

seldom [has] a Cactus League game with as much importance as Kerry Wood's start against Oakland on Thursday at HoHoKam Park.

Keep this in mind when tomorrow the quotes say something like "it's no big deal, just muscle spasms"

They'll be lucky to win 40 games between the 2 of em in the next couple of seasons.

You gotta love Stoney. He always tells it like it is and sometimes the truth hurts. As I said before, he was the only one in that whole organization with any integrity and they forced him out for it. Damn shame.

Charles Barkley was on 'The Dan Patrick Show' this past afternoon.

He called Mariotti an ass that never says anything positive about anything and alway whines.

I was in my car driving to work and I about had to pull over as I was laughing so hard.
