General Admission at the Vic

Featured Replies

Anyone been there for a GA show..? Any advice on getting close to the stage?

How early to get there, etc..??

You'll need to get there pretty early if the artist you're seeing is at all popular.

I like to get to shows early anyway, and there's always a line formed by the time I arrive ( I generally get there about 1/2 hour before the doors open ).

It's not TOO difficult to get up close, because some people want tables, some people head for the balcony and the rest go up front.

Hope that helps a little...

Going to see Rob Thomas... show starts at 7 I had figured we'd get there by 5... glad I asked as that sounds like it will be to early. Thanks..

If you don't mind standing there that long, there's no such thing as too early.

He's pretty popular right now, so maybe there'll be some ( other :D :P ) psycho stalker ultra-fans there by 5 too.....

I was giving a kind of "latest early" option.

CriticCorp. assumes no liability for any poor sightlines and/or seat locations incurred by anyone following the aforementioned suggestions.... :D

Yeah, if it it's a sold out shot, I would say 5 may be a little too late... something around 3 would be ideal

Also bear in mind that I don't generally see bands that are very popular, and I don't like to get that close too often, so I don't usually have to worry about getting there early.

I just get there early because I have a problem with getting ANYWHERE too late. Case in point: I get to work about 1/2 hour early every day....yeah, I know it's a sickness..... :)

if it's an all ages show, good luck. Kids will get ther at like 9:00 AM.

If you're there and in line by 5:30, you oughta be fine I figure. You can always muscle your way up front. But its been my experience that the best place to see a show is a ways back. Unless your planning to fling something at Mr. Thomas you might find yourself stifled, closed in and a little crushed rather than enjoying his laid back easy going matchbox 20 like stylings.

Rob Thomas?

You might be the only one there, so I don't think it should be a problem.

You'd have to pay me to see freakin Rob Thomas.

That said, I don't think the Vic is nearly as good a place to see a show as the Metro or the slightly larger Riv.

Luckily, after going to shows in Chicago for 20 years, I've been mostly able to avoid the Vic - the only two shows I've ever seen there were the Mighty Mighty Bosstones in 1994 (rocked) and the Finn Bros last year (sucked).

The Metro is the best Chicago venue, for sure.

But I think the Vic is just fine - I generally hit the balcony, but I've seen a ton of great shows there from all levels.

...and despite my agreeing with you re: Rob Thomas, the place will probably be packed to the gills. The ladies LOVE matchbox 20 and Rob in particular. I don't get it, but there ya go...

I'm glad you wont be there.. the insistance to crap on someone for liking someone you don't is a personality I would rather not be around anyway.

But thank you for not being ignorant in expressing that opinion.

I try pretty hard not to s*** on others' musical taste, since I like a LOT of s*** that other people just shake their heads at. I used to be a lot worse at it, but again I think old(er) age is helping me not to take things so personally.

When is the show, anyway?

I went to the Vic for the first time last year when I was in Chicago. Saw Killswitch Engage and In Flames (awesome show, only I wished In Flames were headlining so I wouldn't have had to sit through there snoozer of a show to get to KSE)

I wasn't on the floor, but I stood off to stage right on the second little level there, and had a good leaning spot on a railing for when my feet got tired of standing, plus it helped as I was still recovering from a knee injury from a few months back.

I'm glad you wont be there.. the insistance to crap on someone for liking someone you don't is a personality I would rather not be around anyway.

Oh, lighten up.. its all in good fun!

April 24th. I've followed them since waaaayyy back when they were nothing and before he married Marisol and seen them (MB20) at least 25 times. I'm more interested to see what Rob accomplishes on his own. He's extremely talented, IMO of course.

One of Rob Thomas' most notable accomplishments: Making me puke every time I hear one of his songs.

Did anyone see Triumph the Insult Comic Dog at the Grammys?

He was talking to Rob Thomas and said:

"Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20. So that makes the final score Matchbox 20, Talent Zero"

:lolhitting :lolhitting

I'm not a Thomas fan, but somebody I am married to (that'd be my wife, for those playing along at home) will probably be there. Don't like his stuff, but there is no getting around the fact that he has a talent. The guy can write and is quite adapt at switching his style.

Easyw, are you telling me you wouldn't do Rob missionary style??? Huh, I guess you have some form of respect, eh?

So you are admitting under oath, Mr. Gleason, that your wife is more likely to make the trip into Chicago than you are???

:D :P

My wife would maybe go to see him if she had someone to go with....that someone will not be me, however.... ;) :huh :D

My wife loves going to Chicago, so yes, I am admitting that under oath. I am making steps though, I was out until LATE on Friday night, and that was all spent at the bar! It wasn't even a very good bar, but they atleast had the Hack, so I was spent by 2AM. :P

One of my wifes sisters LOVE Rob and the matchbox boys also, so she will go with her.

I will be making a trip to Milwaukee soon though, but info on that sits in your email box. :cheers

I have not had a Hacker in soooooooooooo long, I am truly pissed about that.

Unfortunately, we will have to enjoy weak-ass Miller products on 4/1, but

FORTUNATELY, we will be enjoying weak-ass Miller products on 4/1!!!!!!

WOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'll have to get the burner burnin' before then!!!

Weak ass Miller products??? Not so, not so. Miller Stadium actually has some OUTSTANDING beers at it! They had Sprechter on tap when I was last there, and some brews from Point. Sprechter is one of my fave local brews. I ended up HAMMERED the last time I went there, due to my boss buying beer after beer after beer after beer after...ya get the idea. I'll buy ya a beer when I get there. I will be family going, and driving, so I am only enjoying one that evening. But no, they actually do O.K. beer wise. Better than Comiskey Cell.

Sorry brother, I just assumed they did the freeze-out thing to competing brews.

I've only been there once before, so I don't know the deal.

You buy me one, I buy you one, and then both of us sissies quit for the night - gotta drive the 90-minute trip home, after all.... :drink :drink limit.

:D

.....well, MAYBE one more than that.... :D
