CWSGuy406
Link Berkman is what, 28? Any thoughts on the contract? He's a hell of a player when healthy, I think 14 million + is right about what he deserves. To the continued terrorizing of the Cubs, Lance! whitesoxin'
This must mean the 'Stros know he is well on his way to a full recovery. That is good news for my fantasy team.

jackie hayes
QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 20, 2005 -> 06:14 AM) Bulls***, berkman>ordonez and gets less money per year on average. That's b/c Ordonez is overpaid, not b/c Berkman is underpaid. Berkman's also better than Beltran, so the Astros can consider themselves double-lucky. In my dream world, the Astros bailed and let the Sox get him, for at least one season (Ellis Burksish). Alas.
DBAHO
This just goes to show how much of an idiot Mike Illitch is.

CanOfCorn
Berkman is the first baseman as soon as Bagwell retires. He played first in college at Rice, he's from Texas, he probably gave them a hometown discount. Hopefully, he'll be a lifer in an Astros uni...as long as he doesn't hire Bora$$!!! hammerhead johnson
Berkman is one hell of an OPS man, but 14 million per yer over 6 years? That is insane. There are outfielders and first basemen everywhere. That's ace money.
CWSGuy406
True, but he's an absolute fan favorite down there. He's an Astro for life, I bet... I was holding out slight hope that Houston wouldn't resign him and that he'd reach free agency. Silly me... But, I'd say he's a top five OF'er in the game, and compared to what Maggs got, Berkman's contract seems a lot better. If both were healthy and 100%, I'd take Berkman every day over Maggs, too -- they may have overpaid in years, but I think the money is right (maybe a bit too much).
