I'VE HAD IT!!! "PWNED"!!!

Featured Replies

Not sure what happened here. I guess I was "PWNED"! But my original post, which is not here now, was asking why that stupid word uses the "P", and what it is all about.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't understand that. :huh

Are you serious? So a stupid saying (OWNED) became even more idiotic by a mistake??? I guess it makes sense.

95% of the internet is stupidity caused by accidents. Just look at this place.

You're kidding, right? If you're serious, I am so upset right now. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what the hell it stands for. After all this time - this is the answer I get? f***! :chair

From what i remember it comes from a programming error from some old computer game where when you play online and you kill somebody the automatic message said "(Players Name) was pwned by (Other Players Name)" I cant rememeber the video game though..

That makes me feel a little better.

Warcraft was the game.

But that doesn't explain the more obnoxious pwn3d

my guess was close...

That looks to be someone tryin to take an already moronic idea and try to get creative with it.

:D actually the other rumor is that a top Quake player typed pwned instead of owned during a tournament and it caught on from then on throughout the nerd community..

I just recently saw a website (of course I can't remember where) that talked about this exact thing. It's more common in chat rooms or IMs but they even had a name for it. There are certain letters that people will specifically use rather than type the word the way it's supposed to be.

@ = a 3 = E etc...

I'll see if I can remember where I found the link.

f***ing rediculous all of it.

You just make s*** harder to type when you add numbers in place of letters, not to mention it's retarded. I have a hard enough time spelling words in English, now I gotta add numbers in there too?! Not a chance.

Is pwn3d pronounced pooned?

Inside jokes.

If y'all really wanna talk s*** about something, we have 50 Cent threads around here all the time.

I didn't understand pwn at first either, but after I caught on, I didn't have much of an issue with it. It's nerd-speak. We're a bunch of freaking nerds on here -- don't get it twisted.

Every generation has it's own phrases, I think it's really hip and groovy that the hip cats of today are what's happening.

What makes this unique is we are raising the first generation of instant communication babies. This is the first generation who are growing up with IM, message boards, and relying so heavily on written communications. It only makes sense that a unique language would develop.

Right On!
