March 23, 200521 yr Apparently last night, 2 guys were shot leaving The Wild Hare reggae bar, which is like 2 blocks from Wrigley. Anyone else see this also?
March 23, 200521 yr It involved gangs apparently... CHICAGO -- Gunfire erupted about a block from Wrigley Field early Wednesday during a dispute between two opposing street gangs, leaving two men wounded. The shooting took place at 3464 N. Clark St. around 1:50 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak. The wounded men, both 22 years old and reputed members of the Four Corners Hustlers street gang, began to quarrel on the street with another man who was with a fellow gang member, Kubiak said. A shoving match ensued, and one man pulled out a gun and shot the two men, Kubiak said. The assailants then drove away from the scene, she said. One man was shot in the right forearm, and the second had bullet wounds through his right and left thighs, according to Kubiak. The gunman and the man with him were believed to be members of the Gangster Disciples street gang, she said. A gun was later recovered nearby at 1048 W. Cornelia Ave., Kubiak said. The victims jumped into a Cadillac and drove themselves to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Kubiak said. When the hospital informed police, police went to the hospital to question the victims, but they refused to provide descriptions of the assailants, she said. An employee of Washington Mutual Bank, at 3500 N. Clark St., said there was no sign of a shooting when employees first arrived for work at 8:30 a.m. A Belmont Area detective referred all calls to News Affairs.

March 24, 200521 yr Thats exactly what I was thinking... Seriously though if you ever needed any more prove what a waste of time being in gang is then you get it in spades here.
March 24, 200521 yr Maybe they were arguing over who should hit leadoff? Hairston or Patterson Seriously though, that is an unfortunate incident and hopefully will never happen again...
March 24, 200521 yr As I've been saying for a LONG time, that is NOT a nice, squeaky clean area. There's a ton of shady-looking people wandering the streets around there late at night. The violence and crime has nothing to do with the Cubs, but the propaganda machine would make you think that area is perfectly safe and family-friendly, and it's just not that way at all.

And all you have to do is look at crime rates to know that.
March 24, 200521 yr chicago police used to have a web site where crime stats were posted with a nice map of the city... I can't find it anymore... but, wrigleyville ALWAYS had more violent crime than cellville....
March 24, 200521 yr It's just so amazing to me that the Trib has been able to hide just how dangerous it's becoming.
March 24, 200521 yr QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) It's just so amazing to me that the Trib has been able to hide just how dangerous it's becoming. Maybe people just don't want to believe it's dangerous? I can see why TribCo would want to bury bad "Lakeview" news ( Wrigleyville always turns back into Lakeview when the crime happens )...bad for business....

Hairston or Patterson Seriously though, that is an unfortunate incident and hopefully will never happen again... Why? Let these f***s shoot each other. Obviously, gangland activities do result in innocent people occasionally dying. But if these pieces of s*** all shoot and kill each other, who cares?
March 24, 200521 yr Author I seem to remember reading a Sun Times article recently, maybe evn last week which showed that violent crime has dramartically incrased not only in Wrigleyville, but a few other northside areas. Anyone else see that?
