Arkansas nixes offensive pink jerseys

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Arkansas coach Houston Nutt has decided that his players who are caught loafing will no longer wear pink jerseys during practices in an effort to avoid offending breast cancer survivors.

Nutt said Monday that he had received negative reaction from people when they saw the players in the pink jerseys. Breast cancer survivors and their supporters often wear pink ribbons and the nationwide Race for the Cure, which raises funds for breast cancer research, uses the color pink as well.

"That's the last thing I want to do, is to offend a cancer victim, someone who I know how strong and brave they are," Nutt said. "That was the last thing on our mind, to discredit somebody who has shown a lot of toughness. I've had members of my family who had cancer."

Nutt said the coaches are considering another color, possibly burnt orange, the color of Arkansas rival Texas.

i understand and appreciate not wanting to offend someone with or who has survived breast cancer, but this is taking it too far imo. i could understand it if he was making them wear a pink ribbon or something but associating a pink football jersey with a cancer survivor is a stretch...

American hipocracy at its finest hehe...

Some folks would take an idea such as making loafers wear pink jerseys to shun them, and try to get them to play better.....and twist it around to being a derogatory thing towards Breast Cancer survivors..

Jesus Christ, what is this country coming to...

Rainbow jerseys would do the trick.

Of course, then you might be offending ANOTHER group.

That's idiotic in my opinion just get rid of pink jerseys just because of that. I suppose we better start getting rid of the yellow jerseys for prostate cancer. Plain rediculous.

Oh, this is exceptionally important. What kind of a prick would you be to suggest playing shirts and skins, not knowing if anyone's father was a nudist?

I need a frickin' chart to keep all these straight. Can we blame this "movement" on Tony Orlando and his stupid tie a yellow ribbon song. Which BTW, was about a guy getting out of prison!
