:headshake A great Texas leader giving his all for his country and the damn anti-Texas media wants his scalp. I cannot believe the media can keep making up stuff like this and get away with it. Notice how they don't even try and hide their agenda, they mention right away he's from Texas but don't even mention he's a Republican. The damn media has such a bias against Texans.

I'll bet if this was someone from Illinois they wouldn't be making up these horrible lies . But the anti-Texan bias in the news is just terrible.

WASHINGTON, April 5 - The wife and daughter of Tom DeLay, the House majority leader, have been paid more than $500,000 since 2001 by Mr. DeLay's political action and campaign committees, according to a detailed review of disclosure statements filed with the Federal Election Commission and separate fund-raising records in Mr. DeLay's home state, Texas.

Most of the payments to his wife, Christine A. DeLay, and his only child, Dani DeLay Ferro, were described in the disclosure forms as "fund-raising fees," "campaign management" or "payroll," with no additional details about how they earned the money. The payments appear to reflect what Mr. DeLay's aides say is the central role played by the majority leader's wife and daughter in his political career.

I think it's time for Tommy to retire.

I've been pretty quiet on this issue, but if people can get thrown out of office for mail fraud (the dude from Illinois, what was his name) - DeLay needs to go... stupid ass, what was he thinking?

He was thinking what most career politicians think: "I'm above the rules, my family deserves this..."

Exactly. If they would actually start throwing the book at these guys with the ferver they get worked up for over nothing, maybe these guys would think twice about breaking the law. Politicians should be held to a higher standard of the law, not a lower one.

I've got an quicker, more simple idea:

TERM LIMITS!!!!!!!!!!

Jim Ryan?

Agreed. I can't believe that intelligent men such as Delay and Ryan make such idiotic decisions.

My favorite is the former mayor of Waterbury, CT (can't recall his name). He was thrown out of office and imprisoned for having intercourse with underage prostitutes. And it gets even better: His father-in-law is in the mafia. I wonder how long it'll be before he gets shanked in the joint.

Mail fraud was Rosty. He would take a $1000 mail voucher and go buy a book of stamps and then keep the change IIRC. He actually did time, which by itself is pretty amazing.

Jim Ryan's time is coming, and I hope Rich Daley's is too.

Wasn't Ryan involved in some scandal regarding driver's licenses a couple years ago?

Different Ryan - George. No relation.

Exactly. The Sec States office were selling them to people who ordinarily could not get them. One man ended up getting into an accident that killed a family of like 6 or 7 people in a horrible firey crash a few years back. And of course the money went into the reelect Jim Ryan campaign coffers.

Shoot, D'uh :bang

Yeah, everywhere I said "Jim", it should be "George" Sorry about that.

Ugh.. that van was completely destroyed. And it wasn't that all of them couldn't get them.. many were too damn lazy to take the test. And most were CDL's.. how nice they must sleep at night knowing that they just put a several ton vehicle in the hands of someone that can't operate it properly... :headshake

Digging up 8 year old stuff??

A six-day trip to Moscow in 1997 by then-House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) was underwritten by business interests lobbying in support of the Russian government, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the trip arrangements.

DeLay reported that the trip was sponsored by a Washington-based nonprofit organization. But interviews with those involved in planning DeLay's trip say the expenses were covered by a mysterious company registered in the Bahamas that also paid for an intensive $440,000 lobbying campaign.

It is unclear precisely how the money was transferred from the Bahamian-registered company to the nonprofit.

The expense-paid trip by DeLay and four of his staff members cost $57,238, according to records filed by his office. During his six days in Moscow, he played golf, met with Russian church leaders and talked to Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin, a friend of Russian oil and gas executives associated with the lobbying effort.

DeLay also dined with the Russian executives and two Washington-based registered lobbyists for the Bahamian-registered company, sources say. One of those lobbyists was Jack Abramoff, who is now at the center of a federal influence-peddling and corruption probe related to his representation of Indian tribes.

:headshake Notice they couldn't mention Texas fast enough in the article. Mysterious company. Unclear how the money was transfered? Ooh scary, he went to Russia.

I can't say I've ever heard it expressed better. Too many, both parties, all levels, think they are above the law.

You can limit your Congressman's term every Second November.

Dan Rostenkowski. He went to jail for abusing free stamp privileges for Congressmen.

It's too bad more people don't realize that.

Good point. People never do enough research and instead vote for the familiar names. That's how we get 40 year representatives.

...that don't even show up to vote.

That's also how we get politicians that have been forced out of office and convicted of a crime to come out and run again - AND WIN! :headshake

forgive me... but I thought that is what politics are all about... why is it news that delay's family made $$$.. ??? why is it news that "friends" of Mayor Daley got lucrative contracts under various means.. ??? is it just me ??? doesn't politics all come down to getting $$$ to people ya know.... ???? and electing different people just brings in different "friends" and different means... If I ever get to run for office and God help us if I win.. you can be darn sure my friends and family are gonna have cushy jobs and are making good $$$ !!!!! ... OMG DYE JUST TIED IT UP!!!! back to the rant... aren't your friends and family usually the ones that support you most on your way up??? from knocking on doors at the precinct level to making travel plans for a "contender" your friends and family have always been there... show me any politician, republican, democrat, independent, BASES LOADED NO OUTS!!!! that doesn't take care.. PUT IT ON THE BOARD!!!!!! of their friends and family... and i won't vote for em.... :D :D
