Scott Elarton to pitch thursday for tribe

Featured Replies

Just saw this in Chicago Tribune:

Cleveland altered its rotation so Scott Elarton will start Thursday instead of Jake Westbrook. Elarton pitched a two-hit shutout against the Sox on Aug. 29 of last season, facing just 29 batters in a 9-0 win. ...

Good news for us, even if Westbrook was bombed in his last start. Elarton at best is the 5th starter for them, and we all saw how bad he was in Colorado for the early part of 2004.

This is a bit encouraging. This 6'8, 240 pounder really doesn't have impressive stuff. This guy just gets rocked.

That said, here are his stats against our belov'ed White Sox:

6 games, 3 game starts, 1 win, 0 losses, 1 CG, 1 SHO, 21.1 IP, 19 k's, 2.57 ERA, 0.90 WHIP.

He's definitely not going to post Santana like K numbers that's for sure (that said, he posted the most K's against us out of any team last season, 13 in 15.2 IP). And Righties absolutely crushed him last season, .306/.352/.548, so the White Sox should keep this in mind.

He's another one of those guys the White Sox made look like Cy Young. Hopefully, these new-look Sox will get to him early and often.

I'm not predicting anything, but an early exit for Mr. Elarton is a very good possibility.

Wow, the Tribe is already altering their rotation on the fly to match up with the Sox. Is Wedge really panicing already?

El Duque vs. Scott Elarton? I'll take it.

I like our odds in this one.

The twins will have to face CC and Westbrook this weekend. The more they get buried the better.
