DBAHO Posted May 13, 2005 Share Posted May 13, 2005 From a Phil Ariva piece from the Southtown; And Pierzynski showed the savvy and toughness the Sox coveted and the personality some of his peers detest by calling for the ball and applying a forceful tag to the seat of Jeff Fiorentino in that pivotal eighth inning. On a comebacker, Garland was about to whirl and throw to second when Pierzynski alerted him that Fiorentino was trying to score from third. Garland threw to the plate, Fiorentino stumbled while reversing field and Pierzynski put a stronger than necessary tag on the rookie's rump, sending him chin first to the turf. Sox fans will surely remember the play, and it will be interesting to see if the Orioles do sometime over the rest of the series. Did anyone else notice after John got the K on Tejada in the eighth how he watched AJ go back to the dugout, instead of going back to the bench. I wish I knew what he said.... Off balance AND you want to make sure the umps see you make that tag....the guy is running away from you you cant just swipe at him and hope the ump thinks you touched him....you make sure the ump sees you touched him.... this was nothing but a good play... KevHead0881 Posted May 13, 2005 Share Posted May 13, 2005 In the original view, it appeared as if AJ shoved him. But when they showed the side view, it looked like just your standard tag. The guy just lost his balance. Even if he did tag him a little harder then he had to, it still was nothing for the O's to make a fuss over.
