June 15, 200520 yr If that happens, Marte goes to the DL. Personally I think the Sox are thinking about DLing Damaso right now anyway.
June 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 07:20 AM) If that happens, Marte goes to the DL. Personally I think the Sox are thinking about DLing Damaso right now anyway. Damaso needs to go on the DL. I was at the game last night and i got to watch him suck it up in person. He would throw one strike, then 3 balls right after. There is something wrong with him, but hopefully it isn't serious.
June 15, 200520 yr Quick stats on Brower: 2W-1L, 6.53 ERA, .320 BAA, 1.81 WHIP. In other words, not good. He's had a few good seasons before this year, but that makes him no different than Vizcaino. Maybe the Sox see a flaw in his delivery and think they can fix it? Otherwise, I don't see a reason to bring him in.
June 15, 200520 yr There was a thread on Brower from a couple of days ago. Basically, he was a great set up guy for the Giants last season, but NL hitters have figured out his main weapon, his slider. It's worth a shot though, since AL hitters haven't seen much of his stuff, and well we need any help we can get in the bullpen.
June 15, 200520 yr Id give it a shot, so I could put Marte on the DL and if it dosent work realese or trade him when Marte gets back.
June 15, 200520 yr Be warned though, 89 appearances last season; Jim Brower tied a franchise record by appearing in 89 games last year, including a pennant-seeking stretch in which he pitched in eight consecutive games over a nine-day span.

June 15, 200520 yr I wonder if Seattle would be willing to part with Jeff Nelson. I know a lot of people were asking for him when he was let loose by the Yanks. Just conjecture here nothing solid to go on but he would look much better than Brower me thinks....
June 15, 200520 yr AJ and Hermie can give a good scouting report. I trust them if they think he can improve.
June 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) AJ and Hermie can give a good scouting report. I trust them if they think he can improve. That worked well with Kevin Walker. :rolly
June 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) That worked well with Kevin Walker. :rolly Actually, the White Sox signed both AJ and Dustin after Kevin Walker. So your point is lost.

June 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) Actually, the White Sox signed both AJ and Dustin after Kevin Walker. So your point is lost. He was called up after they were established with the Sox. Point was not lost.
June 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 10:13 AM) He was called up after they were established with the Sox. Point was not lost. Why would anyone be against this move? If it works out and he returns to form last year, we've solved an issue on our team without giving up any talent. Seems like a pretty darn good idea to me...

I'd do it, he was having a rough year so far and could turn it around.
June 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) Why would anyone be against this move? If it works out and he returns to form last year, we've solved an issue on our team without giving up any talent. Seems like a pretty darn good idea to me... That's a big if. Any trade is a risk, regardless of the type of season a player is having. Rarely is talent acquired for nothing. When it does happen, it's almost always unexpected. Taking risks are part of being a GM, but the successful ones know how to minimize those risks. JR didn't build his fortune by playing the lottery, and KW isn't going to build the team by gambling on a player who may or may not turn it around.
June 15, 200520 yr Author The Atlanta Braves have signed right-handed reliever Jim Brower, who cleared waivers at 1 p.m. Wednesday after being released by the Giants on Sunday. More than a dozen teams bid for Brower, according to his agent, Rex Gary. The Twins, White Sox and Rangers were believed to be among the clubs interested. The Braves, however, should prove a good fit - pitching coach Leo Mazzone excels at reviving struggling pitchers. Brower, 32, had a 6.53 ERA in 32 appearances with the Giants. Left-handed hitters batted .327 against him, right-handed hitters .315. The Giants are responsible for most of Brower's $1,162,500 salary this season. The Braves, unable to add significant payroll, will be responsible only for the pro-rated portion of the minimum salary.
