June 22, 200520 yr http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Come on already with this offseason crap... EDIT: Forgot chicagosports was a sign up site (though free), so i'll post the story: Illinois junior running back E.B. Halsey will "be disciplined within our team" but won't be suspended after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor criminal charge Thursday in Springfield, Ohio, of driving a rental car without authorization, coach Ron Zook said Tuesday. "E.B. has been very remorseful, but if it's wrong, it's wrong," Zook said. "We tell these guys when they do things they're not supposed to do they have to pay the consequences. He knows he has to be responsible." Halsey was stopped three times while returning to Champaign from his home in Elizabeth, N.J., in January. According to highway patrol records, Halsey was stopped allegedly for driving 100 m.p.h. in Pennsylvania, 96 m.p.h. in Ohio and 92 m.p.h. in Ohio. When he was stopped in Pennsylvania, the state trooper discovered the rental agreement didn't list either Halsey or the two passengers from Elizabeth as having rented the vehicle, and it was towed to an impound lot. Reportedly, the three broke into the lot, removed the vehicle and continued their trip. However, Pennsylvania authorities have declined to charge them with theft. When the car was stopped the third time, the passengers also were charged with possession of marijuana. Under his plea bargain agreement, Halsey paid the maximum fine of $250, plus court costs. A review will be conducted in July to determine if he has fulfilled the conditions of the plea agreement. Edited June 22, 200520 yr by IlliniKrush
June 22, 200520 yr QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 01:52 AM) Thats how you prove you can compete with Thomas for Starting HB!!! I like Halsey and all, but Thomas is way better than him and with Rashard Mendehall in the house, Halsey is now the 3rd best RB on the roster.
June 22, 200520 yr 1) Steal rental car 2) Speed 3) Steal rental car from impound lot 4) Speed 5) Put some marijuana in the car 6) Speed Nice.
June 22, 200520 yr QUOTE(shakes @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) It sounds like Zook is running a real tight ship so far. Funny but true. But hey, he can recruit right? Well then I guess that's all that matters.

So if he wasn't his recruit he isn't his player? He is the head coach right? Run a tight ship is all I'm saying, since a lot of people have already called Zook the savior of the program even though like you have said no downs have been played yet. Not calling anyone out personally, hell people around my school are just the same about Weis. All I'm saying is it's a two-way street, and I'm just expressing my opinion that I don't think Zook is a good HC (and it isn't just because of recent transpirings). Even though this board does tilt towards the Illini (and rightfully so), I feel as though I can at least provide prospective on the opposing view.

June 23, 200520 yr QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) please explain how zook, or any coach for that matter, can control whether a player does or does not do stupid s*** off campus and/or out of state. Directly? Not a damn thing. Indirectly? In many ways. The way the program is run, the policies which they put into place, the punishment they give to those who refuse to follow the rules, etc. Creating an environment where these players are responsible and mature goes a long way both on and off the field. Now I have no clue if this is being done, nor do I know the punishments of Illini players who cause trouble, but the off the field stuff needs to be dealt with swiftly if you want to see success on the field. That's just my opinion from being around many who have played college sports. As for my earlier post I was more reacting to the response of "Well it's not his player, he didn't recruit him." I was more peeved at that then the situation, because I have experienced that defense a lot (see: The Tyrone Willingham Era). It's a cop out, and frankly it's bulls***. When you become the coach of a team, they are your players regardless of who brought them in.
June 23, 200520 yr Off-season problems? No one has had it as rough as my beloved South Carolina Gamecocks. Luckily Spurrier is taking no s***, filtering out the bad that Holtz left him. I am still glad that Holtz gave us what he did, but right now Spurrier is having to do ALOT of cleaning house so to speak.
June 23, 200520 yr i cant wait for this season but sadly im already looking forward to next season with all those 3, 4 and hopefully 5 star recruits
