I thought Miguel Olivo and Jeremy Reed were going to kick butt this year and be budding if not immediate stars.

I see Miguel got sent down recently hitting about a buck ninety and Jeremy has a fairly decent batting average at .271 but doesn't steal bases doesn't hit the deep ball and doesn't have a lot of ribbies.

 

Kenny W. seems to know what he's doing. I must eat crow and say he's doing a fine job.

I guess Olivo turned out to be a bust and all.... He was just a personnel favorite of mine always liked watching him play.

 

As for Jeremy Reed he is playing well for a rookie, he wasnt a power hitting product so playing his 1st year in his majors in a pitchers park were you expecting a lot of HR's? And even Ichiro doesnt steal much as he should for Seattle I think they are a team that likes to steal 2 often.

 

So basicly it was Reed for Garcia and while Reed's career looks promising(hurts 2 watch his web gems on baseball tonight) I think we clearly made out better especially with Brian Anderson waiting to be called up.

Reed is a good one. He is going to give you consistency. You will get a decent avg from him and decent speed. The more experience he gets the better he will utilize his speed. You already see his above avg defense. I am not sure about his arm but he has had a few web jems this season already. We can take his loss though since our farm is deep in OF's. The trade was pretty good I just hope Garcia can be a little more consistent, especially at home. I am not sure on his exact numbers because he might just seem inconsisten I don't know but it does seem like it.

 

Think about it this way, without Garcia we wouldn't be where we are, the pitchers market was horrible this past offseason so I say KW did a good job overall.

Unfortunately Olivo has his great arm, and that apparently is about it. Not terribly accurate arm, bad game caller, and not much of a hitter.

 

Reed was the one alot of us didn't want to lose, but fortunately Duane Schaffer and the staff made us feel better about it with Brian Anderson.

Reed has a chance to be a very good one. He's just a rookie, so don't expect him to hit .330 yet. He may do it eventually though. Morse might turn out to be a good player for the M's as well. This is potentially another trade where both teams benefit, eventually.

I guess that is good for the sox, GM's see KW as a good guy to deal with. He won't fleece you, you don't fleece him. Both sides win, both sides are happy. Although I agree with whoever said watching Reed in the web jems hurts...a lot.

Morse was a decent prospect, I think because of his size or something it was said he might eventualy move to a different position... But he wasnt that big of a prospect i put him in the frankie francisco column...as in not 2 good of prospects that have been good.

If you have a really cool, kick ass anchor and the other guy has a spiffy, but cheap life preserver, would you trade if your boat was going down and his was drifting?

 

Same thing here. I think Kenny over paid a bit, but there was a vision and he probably needed to to fill the exact roles.

Morse was always projected as a fine hitter, I remember Greg Walker calling him the most talented minor league hitter in the Sox system at the time of the trade. The question on him has been his glove -whether he could field well enough to survive in the bigs, no matter how well he hit.

 

I haven't seen him play but I looked him up a couple weeks ago and he had 3 errors in his first 9 starts. Just checked again and he's still at 3 with 18 starts so maybe he is settling in.

 

The Sox get the Mariners again in August so we can all get a look at him.

 

There is also a black mark on his record for getting suspended 15 days last year for an undisclosed reason. The rumor is roids.

What's amazed me is that ALL of KW's recent roster moves have worked out...

 

He traded for Freddy, and it paid off....

He traded for Contreras, who has rebounded nicely....

Pods -- also rebounding well from last year....

Hermanson -- quickly stabilized our bullpen when Shingo struggled...

Gooch -- exceeded most people's expectations and been our most reliable hitter....

AJ -- brought good offense to the catcher position...

Widger -- I didn't expect anything from him, but he's batting .302....

Dye -- struggled early, but looks like has recovered his stroke and has been hot for us lately....

Ozuna -- where did he come from?? He's been a good backup for us....

El Duque -- has struggled in June, but pitched well for us before that....

Everett -- I didn't like the move last year, trading for him for a second time, but he has been valuable subbing for Frank while he was injured....

 

I think the only aquisition that hasn't worked out yet has been Vizcaino, and even he was having a good June until his last outing.

 

That's 11 players he's added in the last year who have all made big contributions! I'd expect a good GM to have most of his roster moves be successful, but not all of them. KW has been on fire as a GM lately. He's made some rookie mistakes, but I hope this means he's learned from them and is on his way to becoming a good GM.
