New White Sox Website

Recommended Posts

Hey all you Sox fans. Recently I decided to make my own White Sox website. Helps give me something to do over the summer and the long boring winter. There isn't much content to it right now, I'll admit that. It's nothing near was WSI (the website, not the forum) is and probably never will be. But check it out and tell me what you think.

(Oh, and if you find the time please click the ads) :bang

Good luck with the site dude.  There is always a use for more good Sox content on the web.  If you want me to add it to the links on the PTC blog, I will, just let me know.

Thanks southsider.

Though it would be a really cool thing if it is successful, I'm not gonna lose any sleep if it bombs. But, hey, if you wanna add it to the PTC links that's cool. :notworthy

Ok, I checked it out ...

I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings but here is my impression:

The game recaps are the same thing anyone can read in the daily newspapers or on the newspaper websites. IMO there's really not a need for yet another game recap ... anyone can get a recap on the main White Sox site.

The articles are all linked to the forum at southsiders.net , as is the forum link itself. Nothing wrong with that but to say in your post that it's not a forum is a little misleading, most of the content leads to the southsiders.net forum .

It's always good when Sox fans have multiple places to go and talk about the team or gather information, but I don't see anything on the site that's any different or better than what's already available at numerous other sites. The whole thing seems like a duplication of what's out there, with the exception of the forum.

whitesoxwired.com seems more like a feeder site to get people to know about southsiders.net than anything else. :huh

Hey Yahtz. Thanks for sharing your site with the rest of us. I like the format for the most part. Its a clean look, the only thing I'd like to see format wise is a little more color or pictures, specifically where the main story is.

Haven't read enough of the content yet so I can't comment on that, but I'm looking forward to seeing the development of the site and I think the basis is definately there.

I should add based on experience from SoxNet, that I think some of the key things for a Sox website is to make sure you can provide a unique type of content. Game Recaps are nice, especially if you can do them every day. It adds a story everyday and shows a committment, but I also think one of the big keys is to be able to roll out a couple stories a week that offer an outside perspective in a sense. If you see a player struggling, maybe have a story about that player and what he's doing wrong and the adjustments he needs to make. Or have a statistcal type breakdown, kind of like Cheat and some others do (he absolutely rules at that stuff). You could also break down speculative news and talk about the reasons you feel the move was made or analyze something the Sox did. I think all of those things give the site an opportunity to say something different and unique and will help it build a following.

I did like the standings section on the minor league section. Very nice looking. In fact the backend details of the site are quite nice.

Good luck yahtz and like I said if you ever have any questions in terms of running the site and further develop it, don't hesitate to ask me.

Note: I want everyone to know Yahtzee asked me before posting this whether it would be ok to post about his new website.

Well when I posted the site I wasn't thinking more of getting people to click the links, just check out the design and read a couple articles on the main page.

The Beat articles do link to southsiders but that's because I haven't really added a section for the Beat articles. And the News thing I use doesn't allow anchors (which I wished that is freakin' did, then I could just anchor the articles instead of linking to the forum). And all articles have the "click here to discuss is" but that's pretty normal.

Like I said we don't have a lot of original content right now, the game recaps are pretty normal. Okay writers. At this point and time it's just a couple Sox fans just having fun (at least to me).

I have some idea's I'm thinking about implementing but keep in mind the site is not even a week old and at this point and time I'm just trying to gather thoughts on everything.

Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the words, Jas.

Like you said, original content is the key. I know for sure I don't have any original content.

I'll think of some things and jot them down and maybe I'll have 15-20 ideas or so in a couple weeks and I'll run them by my writers to see what they think. Trust me, this is not the extent of the website.
