Cincy is looking to unload anything and getting rid of Griffey saves them money and Konerko is a free agent after this year so they will let go of him saving even more money and Sweeney is just thrown in to help their Minor League system -- they want to get very young so we'll give them a AA guy. Philly wants Starting Pitcher... They are no longer in the hunt so there working on building for the next few years with their rotation
July 23, 200520 yr As much as I'm ready to see Konerko leave the Sox, the first trade, I'm iffy on. I like where we stand as an offense, I know all the numbers don't really impress, but they're getting the hits when they need to. I like the idea of the 2nd trade though. You can never have enough pitching, and Wagner would be a solid addition to the bullpen.

July 23, 200520 yr I would trade McCarthy for Burnett, then flip him for Wagner. If the Reds would take Konerko straight up for Griffey I would do it, but I doubt they would. We'd have to add a prospect for them to add money, but that part could be worked out.
July 23, 200520 yr You wouldn't have to give up that much for Griffey. I'm telling you that as a Cincy Red fan. PK for Griffey is what I have proposed. They want to get rid of Casey, but it they can't, they at least get rid of most of Griffey's contract. And I'm holding on to Contreras over McCarthy or El Duque. We could probably trade BMac and another midlevel guy for Burnett and flip him into Wagner. That would be my best case scenario, but I don't see KW making any moves(for once, even though I think he should) that's going to make a difference at all.
