I just heard on the Score that he passed today at 103 years old.

That's really sad, it was awesome seeing him throw out the first pitch at the cell a little while back.

I just know that he was a Negro League great. He got the nickname "Double Duty" when he caught Satchel Paige in the first game of a double-header and then pitched the second game.

My mom and I met him at a game sometime back. A true gentleman.

This guy was always at comiskey...just recently saw him there for the Dodgers/Sox series...He would throw out the first pitch, with a little standing up help. RIP...seemed like a nice man.

When my gramps died at 93...we said we were celebrating 93 years of a great life. We all could be so lucky!

people like double duty are why i love baseball so much.

 

So much history and he just loved the game till the day he died.

 

id like to think that if i make it to 103 that i would still be going to and following baseball.

it's a shame that he died. He meant a lot to baseball and the real shame is that he could never play Major League Baseball because of the Color of his skin. That's the shame of it.

A great man he was sechduled to throw out the first of the Rickwood classic a couple weeks back but he was already in the hospital. He played at rickwood many times as a tribute the Barons had a moment of silence.
