With Everett and PK swinging the bat great, we need to find someone who can get on base at the top of the order. I don't care if they're the slowest runner in history, we need base runners. There's no excuse to have terrible OBP guys like Timo and Uribe at the top of the order.

We'll only find out if we give him a shot. I'm sure you agree that it'd be better to give Owens a shot if Scotty is out for a while instead of leading Pablo and Timo off every game.

Well, it's tough to say. Ozzie seems to think he'd be overmatched. He is hitting a ton at AA and seems to get at least one hit every night. He is a good athlete from what I saw in Tucson and his baseball instincts are a little raw but you could see improvement literally from day to day. Slap hitter.

 

I think he can bunt too, and he has excellent speed.

 

My take is, he's not ready yet but Ozzie wants a guy who can hit leadoff if they put Podsednik on the shelf, and it would have to be an OF. Process of elimination says Owens, but who knows.
