Did anyone happen to catch her on SNL a while back??  She sounded AMAZING then.

Why yes, you person-who-obviously-does-not-read-from-the-start-of-the-thread you... :D

I didn't see the performance in question, but I saw the new sound/new look Clarkson on an SNL appearance a few months back and Ifound it much more appealing than the American Idol bubblegum version.

LOL!!! Then what the hell are we talking about this for! Hahaha! Here I thought you liked them and were defending them, but instead you're playing devil's advocate? Good stuff there in that response! LOL! :D :D :D :D

Speaking of Green Day, did I hear they are going to peform the entire 9 minute version of 'Blvd. of Broken Dreams' on Jimmy Kimmel?.....or have I just been more drunk than usual at night due to our team's slump? Maybe it was on Carson Daly.

That's too late at night to play that sleepy little tune, IMO....

Every gimmick hungry gob digging gold from rock ’n’ roll

Grabs the mike to tell us he’ll die before he’s sold

But I believe in this-and it’s been tested by research

That he who f***s nun will later join the church

Yes, very politically meaningful. :P

Taking off his turban they said "Is this man a Jew?"

Working for the Clampdown

They put up a poster saying "We earn more than you"

Working for the Clampdown

We will teach our twisted speech

To the young believers

We will train our blue-eyed men

To be young believers

A little more political than Death Or Glory..... :P

EDITED TO ADD.....yes indeed, :headbang :headbang :headbang The Clash

 yeah you is right...

i don't know if i used that smiley correctly or not...

Ooops, almost missed The Clash lyric game! For that, I lay down the second best Clash song ever recorded:

Let me tell you ’bout wayne and his deals of

Cocaine

A little more every day

Holding for a friend till the band do well

Then the d.e.a. locked him away

Clang clang, go the jail guitar doors

Bang bang, go the boots on the floor

Cry cry, for your lonely mother’s son

Clang clang, go the jail guitar doors

An’ I’ll tell you ’bout pete, didn’t want no fame

Gave all his money away

Well there’s something wrong, it’ll be good for you, son

And so they certified him insane

And then there’s keith, waiting for trial

Twenty-five thousand bail

If he goes down you won’t hear his sound

But his friends carry on anyway

f*** ’em!

Jail guitar doors

54/46 was my number

Jail guitar doors

Right now someone else has that number

Not super politcal, but that song just ROCKS!

Then there is their best, and quite possibly the greatest song ever recorded:

Say you stand by your man

Tell me something I don't understand

You said you love me and that's a fact

Then you left me, said you felt trapped

Well some things you can explain away

But my heartache's in me till this day

[Chorus:]

Did you stand by me

No, not at all

Did you stand by me

No way

All the times

When we were close

I'll remember these things the most

I see all my dreams come tumbling down

I won't be happy without you around

So all alone I keep the wolves at bay

There is only one thing that I can say

[Chorus]

You must explain why this must be

Did you lie when you spoke to me

Did you stand by me

No, not at all

Now I got a job

But it don't pay

I need new clothes

I need somewhere to stay

But without all these things I can do

But without your love I won't make it through

But you don't understand my point of view

I suppose there's nothing I can do

[Chorus]

You must explain why this must be

Did you lie when you spoke to me?

Did you stand by me

Did you stand by me

No, not at all

Did you stand by me

No way

Did you stand by me

No, not at all

Did you stand by me

No way

'The Maginficent Seven' and 'Radio Clash' were THE most punk rock things a punk bad has ever done.

I am oh so greatful of the Clash, without them I don't know what I would do. They've been a huge influence on a few bands that I hold dear.

Really??? Like who???

Exactly, there are only 4 real rock bands and everyone else has just been ripping them off chord for chord for all these years, right KG? wink-wink.

Perhaps, but I didn't like either of those songs.

The more "urban" they got, the less I liked them.

Give me the 3 minute blasts of guitars and spitting lyrics and I'm fine.

Agreed. Once the guitars faded, so did they, IMO. Plus, I am not a ska or reggae fan at all, so the touches of that didn't help either.

I see your point and mostly agree, but in terms of their sound taking a turn in that direction, it was a very punk rock thing to do. Just as everyone got comfy with the 3 minute blasts, they said, oh yeah? well try THIS. That attitude of, f*** you, I'll do what I want, how I want, IS punk rock.

Those guys branched off and damn near made dance music with their later bands. Whether you like the sound or not is a matter of opinion, but I always dug their willingness to change and lack of fear of failure.

That's very true, but the Clash always took those types of risks musically, as far back as something like White Man In Hammersmith Palais or covering Police and Thieves.

I'd say one of the more "punk rock" things they did was to record a straight-up pop song like Train In Vain, although it kinda backfired when the song became a hit and the punks backlashed on them big-time.

They'll always be one of my Top Ten bands, for sure.

Train In Vain is my least favorite Clash songs.

It's far from my favorite Clash song - I'd say my faves off the top of my head are Clampdown, Capital Radio One, Stay Free, Safe European Home and Complete Control - but I like Train In Vain better than anything off of Sandinista! or Combat Rock.
