;)

One self-evident and one unfortunate choice of words:

"We know that he has had what I would call emotional difficulties in the past"

"They're going through everything with a fine-toothed comb”

sounds like the name of a disturbed cubs fan

Hard to not make a smart ass remark about the state of Oklahoma's football team.

However, I still don't understand what in the hell must be going on in a persons mind to actually kill themselves.

M*A*S*H Theme Song

Lyrics to the song 'Suicide is Painless'

Through early morning fog I see

visions of the things to be

the pains that are withheld for me

I realize and I can see...

[REFRAIN]:

that suicide is painless

It brings on many changes

and I can take or leave it if I please.

I try to find a way to make

all our little joys relate

without that ever-present hate

but now I know that it's too late, and...

[REFRAIN]

The game of life is hard to play

I'm gonna lose it anyway

The losing card I'll someday lay

so this is all I have to say.

[REFRAIN]

The only way to win is cheat

And lay it down before I'm beat

and to another give my seat

for that's the only painless feat.

[REFRAIN]

The sword of time will pierce our skins

It doesn't hurt when it begins

But as it works its way on in

The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

[REFRAIN]

A brave man once requested me

to answer questions that are key

is it to be or not to be

and I replied 'oh why ask me?'

[REFRAIN]

'Cause suicide is painless

it brings on many changes

and I can take or leave it if I please.

...and you can do the same thing if you please.

We're trying to figure that out.

Suicide is Painless

If you say so, I guess? I hadn’t heard that one in a while. When I read the lyrics, my immediate thought was, “I bet that was written by someone really young, or really jejune.” I had no idea. Turns out the words were penned by the movie director Altman's 14 year-old son.

I've heard it say that to attempt suicide is a selfish and cowardly act, but to commit suicide, takes courage. I'm not certain I agree with that. On some level I respect a person's right over their bodies. I also respect Cardinal Bernadin's view that suffering is part of our Divine Maker's plan and we should accept the suffering.

Either way, I love that scene in the movie and the upbeat melody against the lyrics makes me smile. I wonder how many people have seen the M*A*S*H opening, the helicopters coming in, the nurses and Doctors running, and listened to that song, without knowing the lyrics. I am very surprised that is was written by a High School freshman aged person.

The sword of time will pierce our skins

It doesn't hurt when it begins

But as it works its way on in

The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

just doesn't seem to be penned by someone so young . . .
