December 9, 200520 yr Just saw on espn and they said it was a three year deal. I am thinking it is more like a two year deal with an option for the third.
December 9, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) You're just a little slow. I have barely been around give me a break. Last year i was on top of things before most people.

December 10, 200520 yr Looks the Tigers are trying to get better with their various moves. I can't believe they don't sign Big Frank to go with Maggs.

The key word there is "trying". The definition of trying to Mike Illitch is to sign players to terribly overpaid deals. Case in point Todd Jones having ERA's of 5.52, 3.79 and 4.97 before the 2005 season. And Kenny Rogers actually had far better home splits then away splits in 2005. He'll be 42 by the time his deal finishes up. But with the market value of starting pitches (hey A.J Burnett will make less than Rogers in 2006 BTW), this was to be expected.

Illitch doesn't really have much of a choice. If he wants ballplayers, he has to overpay for them.

Yeah but you can overpay for players like the Blue-Jays have done with Burnett who have a much better chance at producing long - term, than the likes of Rogers and Maggs. The point I'm making is that, yeah he's overpaying, but he's overpaying on the WRONG type of players.

December 10, 200520 yr QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) Blue Jays Tigers Which would you choose? As a Tigers or Blue Jays fan would you prefer to have A.J Burnett and B.J Ryan or Todd Jones and Kenny Rogers for the next few years? Oh and BTW, I'd choose Toronto.
