southsider2k5
QUOTE(TheDudeAbides @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) i want a mccarthy jersey so bad but now whitesox.com saying he could change his #. Bummer. He did. His dad officially told us that Brandon is going to combine his two favorite numbers (35&20) and go to
TheDudeAbides
sweet. My friend told me not to get one until they sign mccarthy to a long term deal tho, because he got a garciaparra jersey right before he was traded to the scrubs

southsider2k5
BTW, this question was answered also at whitesox.com. They are so far behind us.... I saw that Brandon McCarthy changed his number to 55. Why? --Matt, Buffalo Grove, Ill. Matt, I could have taken a guess as to the number change, something along the lines of 55 being the amount of wins McCarthy wants to pile up over the next three years. Okay, it wouldn't have been a very good guess. Instead, I went directly to McCarthy for the answer. "It's actually two-fold," said McCarthy, who wore No. 41 last season. "I always wanted the No. 35 or the No. 20. Seeing that 20 belongs to Jon [Garland] and 35 is off the market, I assume, I added the two together." "My dad also was born on May 5," McCarthy added. Jersey No. 35 belonged to Frank Thomas for nearly two decades with the White Sox, and while it won't be retired immediately, McCarthy understands that day will come sooner than later. McCarthy also admitted that wearing 55 was a small tribute to Orel Hershiser, his pitching idol, who also wore jersey No. 55. "It's a little bit about Hershiser because I was a huge fan," McCarthy said. "I guess the change was three-fold. It's a good mix in there." Milkman delivers
That's quite a few reasons for number 55.

His dad officially told us that Brandon is going to combine his two favorite numbers (35&20) and go to 55 I figured it was Big Frank (35) + Officer Karkovice (20). I assume Karko and Frank were pretty good friends. They probably hung out a lot outside of the clubhouse.
