January 14, 200620 yr The Sox and Nancy have agreed on a contract for the '06 season. Nancy requested, and the Sox agreed, on a different schedule, though, for her. She will be at Opening Night, but otherwise she will play for the day games only - during the regular season. For post season she would be full time.
January 14, 200620 yr day games only is not very much, is she slowing down because she is close to retiring? Nancy is certainly a staple at sox games
January 14, 200620 yr Good to see her still on board. She'll probably be one of the last, if not the last organist in the game.
January 14, 200620 yr I bet that she'll train someone. They won't get rid of an organist permanently at USCF.
January 14, 200620 yr QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 14, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) I bet that she'll train someone. They won't get rid of an organist permanently at USCF. I doubt it. Most stadiums don't even use an organ. I think the Sox will only have an organ until Nancy doesn't want to do it anymore.

I think the Sox will only have an organ until Nancy doesn't want to do it anymore. I think you're correct. If she wasn't such a popular 'fixture' around the park, they probably would have phased her out by now. That would have been a PR nightmare though, and they knew it.
January 14, 200620 yr No question when Nancy goes, the organ goes. I doubt they will have an organist during the night games, which just proves it goes when she retires. Sad Day when that happens.
January 14, 200620 yr I agree that when she's gone, so is the organ. I dunno. A whole lot of the music that is played between innings is so loud and obnoxious that I do not find it one bit enjoyable.
January 15, 200620 yr that organ will be gone ASAP. they couldn't ax her b/c of her popularity, but i heard they wanted to. more bad metal music is sure to attract more fans.
January 16, 200620 yr Nancy made no bones about the fact she was not happy how they fazed her out during the last decade. I don't think she held anything against the Sox, but she didn't like the way the atmosphere around the game changed. Oh well, Nancy was a fixture, but in the last few years she only played the organ for opposing players. A good run that will soon come to an end.

She has only the best things to say about how the Sox have treated her since Brooks came in. She also has said that Jerry Reinsdorf is a wonderful man.
January 16, 200620 yr I'm glad she's back for another go, but this is clearly a phasing out. I wonder when she will be eligible for the HoF. Can her "number" be retired.

January 16, 200620 yr QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) Sounds to me like this was her choice, not the Sox pushing her out the door. I've been sitting on this waiting to hear from Nancy, but since the news is out, I'll tell you what I know. I talked to her in December, and she said that she was requesting days only for a couple of reasons: 1) the drive home late at night was starting to become a real bother to her; 2) she feels that the people who come to the park are more "her crowd." The last time I talked to her, she had sent in a counter-offer to the Sox that she felt they would accept. Apparently they did.

This is one area where "it's a business" shouldn't figure into the equation. Nancy should be able to go out on her own terms. Next time you see her, give her a hug from an appreciative Sox fan.

I assume you meant to say that the people who come to the park for day games are more "her crowd"? That makes sense, if that's how it's supposed to read. To me, the canned music seems more appropriate during night games for some reason. Organ music at a day game feels like a true baseball experience. It's nice.

January 16, 200620 yr QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) How much does an organist make? I doubt she makes much from the White Sox. Organists are a dying breed. I really doubt the Sox will have one after Nancy calls it a day, but with this new arrangement, I believe she will only work 28 dates in 2006, she's liable to be there another 20 years.
