I was at a bar this past weekend and in typical fashion some friends of mine who are Cubs fans only response when the White Sox were brought up was about the on-the-field incidents that happened there years ago. I swear I remember reading somewhere that the people who ran onto the field were either Cubs fans or had come from a day-game at Wrigley. Can someone provide some links to some information I can find on this. I would love to be able to throw that back at them if it's true!

As for Kazmierski's order banning Dybas from the former Comiskey Park, Kostouros said "He's a Cubs fan anyway."

I was at Midway today flying back to colorado.....Guy comes up to me and asks for a cig, we get to talking, turns out he is a big angels fan with season tickets. Of course i had my Sox hat on and he remarked "So I herd the thing about Chicago baseball is that its the sox fans that can acctually talk baseball and its the cubs fans that can tell you how much a beer is at the park".....really nice guy, knew his baseball, so don't fret folks, the non north side world knows whats goin on....

The kid who ran on the field was named Robert Murray I believe, he worked at the CBOT where I also worked, so I know he was a Cub fan running on to their field.

 

Also the Cubs fans who stole the hat from the Dodgers bullpen guys at Wrigley.

 

It's amazing how often the Tribune mentions the incident at U.S. Cellular but "forgets" the things that happened at Wrigley. Actually, on second thought, it's not amazing at all, typical is more like it.

I was at that game, my obligation to go to one cubs game a year. Turned out great, I was two sections over.

Here are some photos from those attacks/morons. The first one was the Cub fan Dybas, the second was the guy that attacked the umpire with his kid, the third one is some jerk that ran on the field and the fourth is when Homer cost the 'Topes the championship.

That guy that attacked the ump with his kid, he has the same tattoo as Ozzy Osbourne! That dragon thingy coming down from his left shoulder.

 

 

 

As for the Sox popularity vs. Cubs, you can tell the tides are changing. I would guess that if the Sox have a good year this year, and the Cubs tank it again, you will see a full on take-over by the end of the year, and the Cubs will be a complete joke to most people.

It seems the increased exposure to Sox park, neighborhood and fan base brought on by the ALCS and WS dispelled two huge myths. First of all, there are definitely 2 teams in this town. Secondly, the scary tales told by the Trib and their Wrigley Field lemmings about the dangers of Bridgeport and the South Side are nothing more than urban legend.

 

The WS tickets were one of the hottest tickets in sports in a long time. Many who spent the money to see a world series game in Chicago marvelled at the tidy, peaceful neighborhood around the Cell. They also noted how much better the park was than they expected.

 

Since the Sox won it all, I have not encountered too many Cubs fans willing to talk baseball, attendance, neighborhoods or anything else for that matter. However, those grasping for straws to knock the Sox are quickly greeted with a puzzled look over their comments followed by the innocent question "Are you talking about the World Champion Chicago White Sox?!"

 

I find that changes the topic of conversation really fast to something less controversial, like religion or politics.

I wouldn't mind going around chicago without seeing any cubbies around. but alot of cub fans are just bandwagon fans. If they start coming to Comiskey in greater numbers they well end up bringing all that wrigley baggage with them. I know Reinsdorf wouldn't mind his tickets sales going up but seriously I don't want cub fans appearing at our park throwing the ball back and running on the field anymore. Its giving us a bad rep.

Most of them are such bad fans they dont even know about their own terrible incidents at wrigley. Fan beating up Randy Myers on the field after he gave up a go ahead homer in 1995, bullpen brawl with the Dodgers in 2000, Concrete falling and fan saftey concerns, Pedestrian shot and killed on Clark st after a game in 2004. I didn't post it to stereotype other NASCAR fans. Just repeating what they claimed. He stated he doesn't even like baseball, finds it boring, and the only reason he went was because the ticket and beer was free - remember.. he was supervising his youngest childs birthday party that his estranged wifes parents had paid for.

The father and son who ran on the field attacked Tom Gamboa, not an umpire
